In what way does Lord Henry affect Dorian's character? Why does Lord Henry choose Dorian as his disciple? And what impels Dorian to follow his guidance? What is it that Dorian fears?

Lord Henry negatively affects Dorian's character in a number of ways. He convinces him that beauty is better than intellect and character and that life is best lived selfishly if one is to live at all.

Lord Henry chooses Dorian because he is a Tabula Rasa - young, innocent, and beautiful. He is someone who yet has to form his own world view, and Lord henry sees that he will be able to influence and mold this view.

I think that Dorian is impeled to follow is guidance because, as an innocent romantic, he is lured in by Lord Henry's charismatic speeches. Lord Henry pounces upon Dorian when he is weak and in need of guidance and consolation. In fact he is a master manipulator, taking advantage of each opportunity to mold Dorian that presents itself.

Dorian fears the corruption of his soul, yet he believes if his facade remains beautiful and unscathed that his corruptions will go unnoticed.
