Holiday favorites, or just whatever comes to hand? Here's the thread to tell all about your current reads!

I'm working on The Fire Chronicle, sequel to The Emerald Atlas, right now. I'm planning on squeezing in a reread of The Hobbit soon, too.

I'm reading The True Meaning of Smekday, by the author of Cold Cereal. It was an inadvertent holiday read--it has to do with a Christmas eve alien invasion and the events that follow until the next Christmas eve.

#3 -- I love The True Meaning of Smekday. Still haven't gotten around to reading Cold Cereal yet. Right now, I'm working on a couple of YA time travel novels, Timeless and Timekeeper.

I finally got my hands on Bitterblue, so that is what I'm reading while I should be reading my ACT Prep book, which is tomorrow.

I also have Cinder on my TBR pile.

I didn't care for Cold Cereal, but ditto on the love for The True Meaning of Smekday. It's being made into a movie starring Rihanna and Jim Parsons, FYI.

I'm nearing the end of Gone Girl, which is dark and twisted and compelling. I have been up way too late every night for a week reading!

I'm also reading Cornbread Nation 6 and Help, Thanks, Wow before bed. Here and there, I'm reading The Warmth of Other Suns. Finally, I'm leading an Advent discusson group at our church on While We Wait.

#5: I read Cinder when it first came out and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. In fact, I think I'll go see if there's a release date for the next one!

ETA: Oooo Scarlet is coming out while I'm on vacation and is now pre-ordered for my Kindle! Perfect!

I finished The Woman Who Died a Lot, which I really enjoyed, and am just waiting until I'm less busy to possibly start The Crimson Crown.

I stayed up much too late last night to finish Gone Girl. I was really, really enjoying it until the last 30 pages or so and then it just...fizzled. I did NOT care for the ending, although as I've mulled it over this morning, I think it was the proper ending for the book. Nevertheless, the writing and storytelling was brilliant, and it was a very dark, twisted-fun read.

I have several books that have been lingering halfway finished for months now, namely Academically Adrift and The Warmth of Other Suns. I'm going to try and focus on those this week to wrap them up.

I have been busy lately -- not much reading happening. I'm working on rereading Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers, and I'm listening to The Case of the Missing Marquess on audiobook in my car. Having to keep two mysteries straight in my head at the same time is probably not the best reading decision I've ever made, but it helps that one is a reread and the other young adult. And I'm enjoying both of them.

#11 I loved Gaudy Night, but it's been a long time... I might need to read it again too! I'm almost done with The Big Over Easy, the first of Jasper Fforde's nursery crimes series. Not as good as Thursday Next, but some hilarious moments.

I read The Vision, which was the sequel to The Mark, and as sequels go, I think I liked it more than the first book, although the way it ended I'm thinking this will not be the last. I'm between books right now and too exhausted to read.

I finished Room a while ago which was good and I finished The Fault in Our Stars in just two days and I loved every bit of it.

#12 -- If I can finish Gaudy Night and Busman's Honeymoon by the end of the year, I will have reread all of the full-length Lord Peter Wimsey novels. It's been long enough since my initial read of the series that I can't remember whodunit, which makes for a pleasant reread!

I started Montana 1948 a couple of nights ago, but I'm not very far into it, as I've been spending my evenings working on Christmas cards and wrapping!

After 6 months of not having time to read posts let alone books, i'm pleased to be doing both again. I've just read the first 4 books in The Sunday Philosophy Club series by Alexander McCall Smith, inlcuding re-reading the third book. Gentle, thoughtful and evocative books.

Okay, I have some exciting news. It might mean nothing to you, but I'm really excited about it. The library that I go to is one library of a branch of libraries. On Thursday I went to my local branch. I found out that they got the rest of the books to the Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman! I think that I was the only one to read the two out of the six books in the series, so it really surprised me to find that the library actually went and used their funds to get the rest.
Needless to say I checked them all out on the spot and I'm now rereading the ones I already read because it's been a couple of years.

But that's not all. Because the library updated that series, I decided to check the other series that I've been looking for today. I found that they got the rest of The Saga of Larten Crepsly by Darren Shan! That's another series that I've been wanting to read since they got the first book Birth of a Killer. They were at another branch so reserved all four of them and I'm now eagerly awaiting their arrival.

How dare you mock my incarceration. I'll have you know that they allow web-enabled devices during sojourns in the Tower of London nowadays. This is not the middle ages, after all.

Actually, if those were the middle ages, what are we in now? The senile ages? Or is that just me?

um, haven't read anything since my last post except cooking instructions ("what? boil water first then add egg? ridiculous!"). Looking forward to a few days off frankly.

Hello all! I have a new computing regime, my laptop having f finally bit the dust, and lt worked so wonderfully on my new tablet! I'm hoping to spend more time here in the new year. I've missed you all.

I recently finished Gone Girl, and I agree that it started out intriguing but ended badly. I think this is more due to turning one of the characters into a sociopath more than anything. I thought it was going to be a psychological dissection of a marriage gone wrong disguised as a thriller, but it just got more and more over the top. Still an enjoyable read, tho

Now I'm reading The Sisters Brothers and enjoying it tremendously.

#29: That was atomic?
I mean, I didn't blow that up, I blew up Foggi's wall. It's not my fault. You can't aim dynamite. Ask Wile E. Coyote. *passes out from talking too fast*

I read Lemony Snicket's All the Wrong Questions which was fun and I am sure would be enjoyed by many here and some Banana Yoshimoto novellas. I am just ending busy period of working on plays and teaching so I will have more time for fun reading in the spring. Oh I also think some here might like The Crowfield Curse my mom send me that and it seems like the start of a great new series.
