Hello Everyone,
I just joined the group. I'm an avid reader of fiction: Literary, Science-Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery, and Christian Fiction. Also, I'm a blogger and have quite a few book reviews for the stuff I've read.
I'm looking forward to interacting with you all.

Welcome Marion. A curious book that last one you review, A Soldier of the Great War.

Tough to answer because my memories are vague. What I recall is that it was straight forward narrative, but there were some other things going on. However, it was never clear to me what the main purposes of the book were, if that makes sense. So, I put it down wondering on the why-s, but not getting much of an answer to them.

Okay no problem, dchaikin.
Mark Helprin is one of my favorite authors. While not my favorite of his, A Soldier of the Great War is an excellent novel. It is basically the life story of Alessandro Giuliani and he is re-telling it to a young Italian man.
I believe it deals with storytelling, the power of imagination, and the effects of war.
