I have enjoyed the ups and downs of 2012. Being a parent so far has been a challenge, especially with a child who hates sleep with a passion. Hopefully this year I can read a little more, lose some weight and try for baby number two! I beat the odds one time and I will do it again!

I hope everyone has a good first of the year!!!

My poor baby is running 101-102 fever. :(

Hi Melissa. Sorry to hear your baby is sick. My baby, who is 20 years old was sick this week with a fever. Hopefully it will pass quickly. Just cuddle that little one and make sure he drinks his liquids.
Happy New Year and good luck on everything in the coming year!!

Melissa! How did I lose track of you last year?! So glad to have found you know, though. And ohmygosh, how that adorable little man has grown! I hope he's feeling better now - it's so hard to see them not feeling well, isn't it?
Eager to hear what you think of Adams, too - one of my all-time favorites.

Hey Amber! :) I know I hate when he is sick and his temperature has only gotten worse, I am making an appointment for him as soon as the doctors open! He has grown so much and has such a personality, he can say "dont! stop! no!" Gosh you gotta love them (lol)
Last year with how bad he slept I sort of threw my 75 Book Challenge out of the window! He till nearly 11 months old woke up 3-4 times a night so I was in a big haze. His not perfect but his doing a lot better now so it has given me more energy to at least try this year. I was keeping an eye out for you but I haven't had the chance to find you on the list as of yet.
So far I am really enjoying the book I believe I am chapter 22, and I can't believe I let it sit on the shelf so long!

Charlie wasn't a good sleeper for a long time either, so I sympathize. And naps? Forget about it.
15mellymel171328

I LOVE this picture!!! I thought I would share because it always brings a smile to my face.
Amber, I had a friend over and she is a mom too. She was kept going on and on how I need to give meltonin to Sammy every night so he sleeps over night. (She is 20 years old with a three year old and 1 1/2 year old.) Not that her age is any reason I think of her as a bad mother but she doesn't watch her kids, she is very "I am the only one who is right," type of person. Well she kept going on and on and she finally told me that if she had Sammy for a week he would be sleeping over night, I let out a rather hysterical laugh because I spent months doing a little bit of everything and nothing has helped. I have talked to the doctor and they said as long as he isn't cranky then he should be fine and it is pretty normal but hard on the parent. My mother in law suggested a lot, tried a lot herself and she has thrown her hands up in the air as well. It is frustrating but that is just the way things are and I don't feel comfortable just drugging him like that. Naps aren't TOO bad usually but he either takes really long ones or really short ones.

Melissa, your young man is growing up! What a beautiful smile he has. My daughter's middle child was a poor sleeper. I think she was at least a year old before she slept through the night! Hard on the parents, but it does get better. Happy New Year to you!
17scaifea
Ugh! Those are the *worst* sorts of parents - the unsolicited and often insistent advice givers. Self-righteous pains in the patootie, that's what they are. Blech.
18mellymel171328
I don't mind getting advice, I figure I will take it all by a grain of salt and go with what feels right. I just hate how she got annoyed at me but then again I was pretty mad about the "well your just not doing it right," attitude she giving off.
I went to the doctor with Sammy and it turned out to be a sinus infection and a viral infection. The sinus infection is under control and we got medications for him and his fever is doing a lot better.

So glad to hear that your Sammy is doing better!
I'm just a stubborn and contrary sort of person, so if someone gives me unsolicited and pushy advice, my first instinct is to do the opposite. Ha! Now, if the person is nice about it, or is intelligent enough to be subtle with it (ex: "This may not work for you, but I've found that X has worked for me in the past..."), then I'm okay with that and usually in fact appreciate it. There are just some people, though, who can't go 5 minutes without telling someone what to do or how to do it, and I try to avoid those sorts as much as possible, as they make me want to punch something, really hard. Unfortunately my MIL fits that description to a terrible T. Sigh.

I can agree with that, I hate people being rude about things!
I slowed down reading because of Sammy but I am sure I will pick it up again soon. The book is so amazing! My husband also started reading too, his reading The Hobbit which is awesome because he is very picky about the books he reads.

So what is everyone doing this weekend?
My son is going to his grandmothers on Sunday and I am going to spend time with just me and the Husband. We've been needing that since we haven't really got to spend any time with each other the last couple of days.

I wonder, does weekly issues of a magazine work as read too? It is close to six comics put together in one and is 130 or so pages? Or would that be cheating? lol
23scaifea
I don't think there is such a thing as cheating here, as we are all welcome to make up our own rules for our own particular challenge and thread. I'm not here for the challenge anyway (I number my books read but only because I'm neurotic and love lists and not because I'm striving toward any goal), but for the excellent company. :)
25mellymel171328
Very well said :) thanks Amber!
On another note I have really caught up on the house from when my son was sick but now I am getting sick and I think my sons relapsing. :(

Oh, Melissa, I'm sorry to hear that! Tomm, Charlie and I did a crazy sick round-robin earlier this fall and it was *not* fun. I did read something cooky on FB (so it's highly likely not to be true) that if you're starting to feel sick, cut an onion in half, and put it in a bowl next to your bed. It, allegedly, will turn all black and gross by morning and you'll feel better because, again allegedly, onions absorb bacteria like nobody's business...? I'm going to try it, just out of curiosity (what can it hurt, eh?) the next time one of us starts feeling sick.

June 11, 2012 - I'm really behind on my reading and my subscription ends in April and it will all start to expire the e comics too.

Toriko - Chapter #188 : I actually always skip this one because I really hate this story. It is literally about this buff guy who finds rare food ingredients and wants to learn how to eat the best of foods. I might be wrong but this is the feeling I get from it.
Barrage - Chapter #2 : I am really enjoying this series, and it is rather cliche but sometimes it is really nice to just have a fun basic story. It is about a selfish prince who hates his life and accidentally comes across a boy who looks just like him. So he forces him to put on the family emblem and in a strange turn of events the real prince is murdered right after and the hero gets picked up by the royal guard. The Prince who was named Barrage was such a royal brat that it wasn't hard to find out the main character wasn't him, but since the kingdom was still in need of a Prince they put him in the place of the Prince. He agreed under one condition that the orphans that he has been watching and feeding be moved in and taken care of so the have no worries at all. The second chapter was about him going out and learning just how bad the kingdom was and is starting to get determined to bring peace back to the world.
Naruto - Chapter #587: I never 100% have been able to follow this series but so far all I get from it is that Kabuto the bad guy has had a bad luck and has been betrayed by everyone he has ever known. I also started this series really late so I will be writing more once I start to figure it out!
Bleach - Chapter #493: Another one that I am a little lost but at the same time I am not, I started this magazine late in the series and there is no way to go back right now (unless I want to buy the comics which that would cost a lot of money to catch up.)
One Piece - Chapter 668: About pirates and they are currently trying to save kids that were turned into giants from a really bad man on a really cold island.
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan - Chapter #203: Right now they are trying to gather a bunch of people to go save something.... Hate I am starting all of these stories so late but the more issues I read the more I will get it! lol

Amber it doesn't hurt to give it a try becuse what would the worst thin that can happen? You continue being sick? Lol nope the worst thing that can happen it mutates from the bacteria and we have something that starts to scream, "feed me Semore!"

Amber what is a snork?
33scaifea
It's something that happens when I laugh too hard and sounds uncommonly like a snort. I think I embarrass Tomm sometimes in public with it...
34mellymel171328
That's really funny I don't think it should be embarrassing!!
35scaifea
Oh, well, *I'm* not embarrassed by it (I revel in my uncouthness), but Tomm's quite a shy guy and doesn't care for attention being called to his general area...
36mellymel171328
Awe that is no good! I can understand not wanting attention I am rather not the most social of people! SO I also wanted to share a really good new picture of me and Sammy.

37mellymel171328
Update on my guniea pig situation. WELLLLLLLL! I traded cinnamon for a new guniea pig. I just found out yesterday that my guniea pig Heather has ringworm now. SO she is a sweetheart but that was just the straw that broke the camels back and I wanted a new one. They couldn't accept Heather back so I am going to try to nurse her back to health myself. I got two amazing cages from Cathy Buller, so I can have them both in different cages while I get Heather's ringworm under control. No idea for name for the new one yet! So wish me luck to not have any more problems with these guys because they are mine to keep now!

39mellymel171328
Thanks :) and I hope that you feel better soon! :( The flu sucks! Thank you his a sweet boy, really hates sleep though! Hahaha He doesn't share me with books all that well either. I will slowly finish it though!
40mellymel171328
I am now moved into a two bedroom! It is so nice and exciting for Sammy to have his own room (even though his refusing to sleep in his bed and he wants to sleep on a couch.)
41London_StJ
Congrats!
42mellymel171328
Thanks :) I am also trying for baby two. So start of a lot of doc appointments! Wish me luck. (Fertility issues)
43mellymel171328
I am very determined to catch up on my weekly comic books!! I pay for a subscription for a reason! lol
44mellymel171328
Yay I'm expecting baby #2
46mellymel171328
For anyone who stops by to see how things are going. I am doing "ok" for now but I unfourtantly miscarried my second. :( Just keeping chin high for now for my son and hopefully lots of reading to get my mind off of things.
47London_StJ
I'm so sorry, sweetheart.
51mellymel171328
Thanks :( I am starting to get my feet under me, I had never imagined such an early miscarriage would affect me so much.
52mellymel171328
Update: I am still having ups and downs but I am doing way better! My little man is turning 2 next month! I can't believe it and his getting so big and starting to talk. I am going to start taking him to the library because the first time we went there he really enjoyed it! It will also give me more things to read which will be nice. :) Also exercise since the library is over a mile away. I have so far lost three pounds and hopefully have lost more! I am currently rereading the Sookie Stackhouse books, and I can't believe how much I have forgotten since I read them roughly two years ago (well the first 9 old ones.) Sammy is starting to sit longer for books so I am enjoying reading to him lately too. :)
53mellymel171328
I am very pleased that I found audible.com. I am enjoying listening to audio books while I either play a video game or cleaning! :)
54mellymel171328
I am currently without a computer so I don't know how often I will be able to get to the library.
55mellymel171328
A lot has happened this year. From medical issues with my husband and losing the baby it has been hard both financially and mentally. Gotta keep going and keep a positive attitude about things! I am very pleased with how much I have read this year. I started checking out audio books from the library since I can't afford audible for a whole now.
56mellymel171328

Christmas tree is up.
57thornton37814
My cat has been enjoying my tree for a couple of weeks.
58mellymel171328
My son keeps trying to sneak back and steal the ornaments off the tree! lol I am using plastic ornaments so they at least won't break!
60mellymel171328
Look at what I made!
Now 30 or so more to go! haha

Now 30 or so more to go! haha
61scaifea
Cute! Charlie made one of those at preschool last year, and although it doesn't look half so polished, of course, we love it (it's so nice to have handprint keepsakes when they're young).
62mellymel171328
I'm making them for the family this year. He seems to enjoy it so its going well so far. :)
63London_StJ
My Doc keeps bringing me ornaments, too: "Oh no, mommy - apple fell off the tree!"
Sure, it "fell." ;)
Sure, it "fell." ;)
64mellymel171328
LOL that is ADORABLE! Sammy just figured out the candy canes are candy so we have to keep taking them away now. lol
65mellymel171328
I can't believe this year is almost over! I did better with reading this year, I didn't hit the 75 challenge but I did way better then the previous two years!
