Hoped to read 75 tomes off my shelf in 2013. However, I reached that goal and I'm now going above and beyond. Maybe 125?

REGULAR BOOKS READ: 25
KINDLE BOOKS READ: 89

REGULAR BOOKS ACQUIRED: 35

I am so impressed with the high numbers people are setting for their goals. Happy reading!

Thanks for visiting.

I read 101 of my own books this year but I had to push it. In 2013, I want to continue to clean off my shelves but I also want to get more of my newer books from the public library so 75 seemed like a good goal for 2013.

I'm about 40% through my first one.

Good luck, Linda! I'm going for 70 myself, just three more than my last year's total, so we are quite close!

Hmmmm...

Jan 2, 2013, 9:07 pm

Oh my - my Thingaversary is in Jan too. I was really, really going to try and not get any books this month. Now I might need to rethink that. Oh my again. - 5 years ( on the 6th)

Happy Thingaversary to you!

Bad, bad - you are supposed to be encouraging Linda to read the old books, not buy new ones...BAD, BAD ;-)

Things are going swimmingly, so far. Heh-heh. Three down.

With those 4-5 books I intend to get, I'm going to have to get cracking on reading real books, not just Kindle books. I need to free up some space.

Hi Linda and congratulations on getting off to such a great start on your Challenge, three books completed and it's only January 4th. Way to go!

Jan 8, 2013, 8:53 pm

How did I miss you, Linda? Well, I'm here now, and I say, you've read 5 books so far, so buying 5 books just makes you even. And even is good. At least, it's better than going in the wrong direction--January is usually the only month that I DON'T go in the wrong direction!

22lindapanzo
Jan 13, 2013, 11:26 pm

Today's my 4th Thingaversary so I acquired 4 new books, plus one to grow on. I'm still ahead of the game, so far, in my 2013 reading.

Happy Thingaversary, Linda! Will have to find your list on your other thread...

Hi Laura, thanks for the good wishes.

I've had a fast start out of the game in 2013. I've already read 11 tomes off my shelves.

25connie53
Jan 19, 2013, 12:31 pm

Wow, that's a lot of books read in 19 days!

26rabbitprincess
Jan 19, 2013, 1:58 pm

Great work on both fronts: reading so many of your own books and reading so many books in general!

27tloeffler
Jan 20, 2013, 7:22 pm

That's the trick, Linda: not buying more books than you read. Not that I'm one to be giving advice....

28lindapanzo
Jan 22, 2013, 12:58 pm

My ROOT totals probably won't budge much for awhile, at least not after I finish my current read.

Just discovered that I have FIVE library books coming in all at once.

29lindapanzo
Edited: Feb 10, 2013, 2:53 pm

Two books found their way into the house. I'm a member of what I call the $9.99 book club. It's actually BOMC2. I get a book from them every other month. My latest is the latest Laura Childs scrapbooking mystery.

My latest ER win, a baseball book called Baseball as a Road to God, also arrived.

I've got to get cracking on reading my own physical books, not just Kindle books. I've been greatly clearing the Kindle pile.

Next thread will be called BOOK: Books Out Of Kindle....

31DeltaQueen50
Feb 23, 2013, 1:35 pm

I include books off my Kindle as part of my Roots. I figure it's all about moving books along and making room for more, and that certain applies to the Kindle. :)

32lindapanzo
Feb 23, 2013, 3:12 pm

Judy, I also tend to think that, if I get something for my Kindle, I'm not adding to the physical space that my books fill up. My old Kindle had a finite space. My new Kindle uses the cloud.

Apr 1, 2013, 1:10 pm

I finished the first quarter with 28 books read off of my shelves. I'm on my way!!

That's a great start - keep it up!!

Alas, baseball season is starting so, no doubt, my reading totals will be declining.

36lindapanzo
Apr 29, 2013, 8:33 pm

I was hardly paying attention so I didn't notice but I've passed the halfway point on my 75 book goal.

Who knows? Maybe I can reach 100. Note, however, that I've been reading more library books this year, too.

41lindapanzo
May 30, 2013, 1:01 pm

#40 I hope so. However, just learned that three books I've been really eager to read came in all at once via ILL.

Also, I've been bogged down in a somewhat dry overdue ER book and also started an 800+ page bio.

I should still continue to make progress, though not as easily as I've done, up til now.

42lindapanzo

One book to go til I reach my goal!! I've got a few library books next up but also hope to read Debbie Macomber's Rose Harbor in Bloom as my goal-reaching book, most likely.

Mission accomplished!!

Early this morning, I finished The Coroner's Lunch, my 75th book off the shelf.

I've set a new goal...125 books off my shelves for the year. This might be too ambitious but it doesn't hurt to try.

55lindapanzo
Aug 31, 2013, 9:32 pm

Thanks, Laura.

For the next six weeks or so, I'm hoping to focus on finishing my 2013 category challenge. After that, roughly mid Oct through the end of the year, I expect my aim will be to read what I think of as my "books on the floor" which never ever seems to go down. I'd love to make a big dent in it.

56lindapanzo
Oct 3, 2013, 3:34 pm

Closing in on 100 books off the shelf. I'm at 95 now.

The landmark-reaching book was Willie Stargell: A Life in Baseball by Frank Garland.
