Regina's 2013 Root garden

I confess to being lured by all the pretty new books and neglecting the books I own. So this year my goal is to read 13 books from off my shelves and then share them with someone else!
#1. My Man Blue by Nikki Grimes

I finally get to start my root thread! Unfortunately, I'm adding this book to my collection instead of removing it. #1. My Man Blue was a beautiful picture book I had come across years ago when I worked in a children's room of a large library. It is a winner in both its story and the illustrations. The story of a man who has lost his son befriending a fatherless inner-city boy. *****

I do not think its unfortunate to keep a book that is so beautifull to you! Just cherish it!

Thank you! I do cherish it, along with much of her other writing.
Thank you for stopping by my thread. I went to your profile; what a beautiful picture of you and the flowers behind you. It was like a painter had color coordinated it all!
I will have to find your thread here, later.

#2. Revenge of the Whale by Nathaniel Philbrick
I gave this five stars, but it was not an easy read.extremely well written, however, the material was quite traumatizing! Hard to believe this is a children's book. Think I will donate this to the library!

3. Making Rounds with Oscar by David Dosa
Found the book to be inappropriately titled. It had very little to do with the cat and was more the stories of his dying patients with Alzheimer's. It wasn't a bad book, but not what I was expecting and not what I wanted.

That's always a big disappointment when things are different as expected.

Connie, it put me in a very blue mood, and I did not need that at this time. So, I went to the library, got a romance and am now running on better juices!

Nothing like a nice romantic book to cheer you up!

Fuzzi, thank you. Yes, my name is Regina. I checked out your profile. We have a lot in common! I think your first five sentences about your self describe me! Nice to meet you and hope to talk again soon.

#4. The Littles go Exploring by John Peterson
Fun little book for children who have learned to read, but are just beginning chapter books. I can add this to the crate of books for the after-school program where I volunteer.

Can finally add or should I say subtract another book! How Came to Be a Writer by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor was an interesting read about this children's author. Nothing spectacular, but nice background if you enjoy this author.

Second book, I'm afraid is staying in the house. I enjoyed it too much to part with it. Lara and the Gray Mare by Kathleen Duey is the first book in a horse series with Lara as the protagonist. Fascinating story, but could have been improved by more background on the time period in Ireland and help with the Irish words.

Yay! I finally get to Root something out again. The Foundling is now on its way to be recycled. Rated it a three, but unless you really love regencies, I would not waste my time.
