As a part of some greater academic studies, I am particularly interested in anti-church feelings and/or atheism as an underlying cause of the Revolution. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a book that discusses this?

ORFisHome, I don't think any legitimate analysis of the Revolution has ever floated the theory that "anti-church feelings" or atheism were underlying causes of it. The Church in France was just as corrupt as the nobility, and was simply looted for its riches and stripped of its power (for a little while) right along with the palaces and the monarchy. The religion of the (Catholic) Church was replaced with the secular "Supreme Being", to whom homage was paid and in whose honor feasts were held, so you're going to find very little support for the atheism argument. People just swapped one (oppressive) God for one Voltaire himself might've adored. But again, only for a few short years. The Revolution had manifold origins, but atheism wasn't among them, and "anti-church feelings" expressed once the Revolution was well underway (and totally out of control) were merely another instance of The People ridding themselves of any and all who'd trod on their necks.
Dr. Eugen Weber (Professor Emeritus, UCLA), has written extensively on France and French culture and many of his brilliant and witty essays have been collected and are available at places like half.com for a pittance. One in particular you might find interesting appears in his book, "My France : Politics, Culture, Myth," titled, "Religion or Superstition?" It's a magnificent piece and deals specifically with the 18th century.
Best of luck with your studies!
