My goal for 2013 actually IS 50 books. But 3 on my list were read in 2012, so I guess it's really 47. My average for the last couple of years has been 36, so we'll see! I'm not sure how this group thing works exactly. Do I post everything under this thread? I have a number of different challenges going and it might be nice to single out at least one of them. Anyway, here are my categories:

Daytimer's (Face to Face Local Bookclub)
We have an assigned list (created by me) of one book a month, so the goal for this category is 12 books.

Moby-Dick Project
I like to take a classic and read books relating to it. I have a long list compiled, but my goal is to read at least 12 of them. I'm giving a book talk to the Friends of the Library in early March, so most of my reading so far this year is focusing on this.

TBR over a year old
I've got a list of 12 books picked from my enormous TBR pile that have been on it for a very long time. Some of these were started at one time or another, but got abandoned for various reasons. I still want to read them. My goal is at least 6.

TBR e-books
Same as above except these are books I've had on my e-reader(s) TBR for a long time. I have 15 or so selected. Goal is 6

Welsh related or Arthurian
List of 14 - goal of 6

Current Interest
Basically anything else I end up wanting to read - mostly historical fiction. Goal of 6 or whatever gets me to 50 books for the year!

Here's what I've completed so far:

Daytimer's:
January book - Where the Red Fern Grows
February book (actually read last year) - The Book Thief
Next up - The Hobbit

Moby Dick Project:
Read in 2012 - Moby-Dick and The Nautical Chart
Finished this year - Why Read Moby-Dick
Moby-Duck and Dive Deeper
Currently reading - Ahab's Wife and The Secret of Lost Things
Next up - Cathedral of the Sea and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters

Current Interest:
Read - Sense and Sensibility "prequel" to reading Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters (above)
Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert. Read Eat, Pray, Love last year for Daytimer's and loved it.
Currently reading - Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians Mr. Treuer was one of the keynote speakers last year at MLA (Minnesota Library Association). Started this last year but it's gotten pushed aside by the Moby Dick Project!
Next up - probably Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit

I like the way you've broken it down. Makes me want to plan my reading a bit more.

And I love the idea of reading books around a classic. I may have to borrow that!

Good luck with your thread. I have threads in different groups but all books I've read in 2013 I'll post them here as well, so it gives me one sum of all books I've read in one year.

Happy reading :-)

Thanks, eclecticdodo. I'm going to be doing a presentation on that for MLA this fall. Probably not Moby Dick, though. I did Pride and Prejudice a couple of years ago. So will probably revisit that this summer, and then all my categories may go out the window!

P.S. Have you read the Thursday Next series?
