Leather Bound Editions

Hello all, I just started my subscription about a month ago, and I checked out the subscriber store last night and the leather bound editions caught my eye, so being immune as I am to financial considerations, I went ahead and bought the three available: George Washington: Writings, Thomas Jefferson: Writings, and Nathaniel Hawthorne: Tales and Sketches. It's a shame they're bonded leather, but they look fine, and if they weren't I certainly wouldn't have been able to get them all for $45!

Anyway, I was just wondering what other volumes were published as leather bound editions. The website says they were published in the '90s, and my 0-5 year old self wasn't interested in Library of America, unfortunately. :P

Thanks for the info, David, that collection is now added to my list to pick up, as additions to the regular editions. :P

It looks to me, after checking on abebooks.com that the second volume was published, but that may be a mistake. It would be odd for the second volume to be published, but not the first. Glad to know I grabbed the George Washington volume before it was too late; I suppose impulsive spending is a good thing (it's a shame lent doesn't start after my paycheck arrives, otherwise I'd have picked up a lot more from my Mardi Gras spending spree :P).

Out of curiosity, were the leather editions just a market test of sorts, or was it planned that they'd all be released?

Can confirm that there is a Volume II of the Leatherstocking tales in this leather bound limited edition. I have this here, but I don't have volume I ironically.

Spotted one of these in the wild yesterday and brought it home. Definitely bought the book (a duplicate, no less) for its cover.

Much like its cloth cousins, it is a fine utilitarian volume.

I wouldn't, and didn't, pay a premium for it. I am happy to have found one while browsing a used bookstore.

There are a few of these leather-bound volumes available on eBay at the moment. Unfortunately, the sellers don't identify them as such, so they're a bit hard to find.

I’ve been a subscriber since the project was started back in 1982 (I think), but I wasn’t aware they issued leather editions. Though I have one of Geroge Washington’s writings that is partly leather.
