We lost Roger Ebert. Such a great mind, such a great writer. I feel he should one day have a volume (or several) dedicated to his criticism and essays.

Agreed on all points. In recent years he also had a number of outstanding essays on topics far removed from film. His excellent training as an English major at University of Illinois shines through all he did. A great humanist and man of letters as well as a movie critic. Just two days ago he blogged that he was taking a "leave of presence," detailing a number of plans for the future, so his passing must have been very sudden, albeit the recurrence of cancer that gave rise to his announcement.

Roger was a charter subscriber to The Library of America, and loved showing off his LOA books (which shared a wall with his Folio Society edition of Trollope's collected works).

He was one of our biggest fans and supporters, and would plug our books (unprompted by us!) every chance he got. He especially loved and promoted Story of the Week.

Maybe there is hope for an Ebert volume. I dedicated a recent blog post to Ebert; the post is about Borges and Ebert's favorite film, Citizen Kane: http://bluenotesinblackandwhite.com/2013/04/04/citizen-borges-for-roger-ebert/
