I feel stupid to only just now realize that the soldiers in Old Man's War were, in fact, green army men.

you mean like those in "Toy Story" and the ones I used as a kid in my card forts before I destroyed the lot with my elastic band/paper wad super weapon :)

Read the description of the book and a couple of the reviews...sounds like an addition to the must read list.

Yup, one and the same. It's a minor part of the book but I think it must have been a little bit of a joke. It's kind of Scalzi's style.

I'd definitely recommend it and its sequels. It's one of the top "characteristic works" for this group:
