"Indeed Bilbo found he had lost more than spoon - he had lost his reputation. It is true that for ever after he remained an elf-friend, and had the honour of dwarves, wizards, and all such folk as ever passed that way; he was no longer quite respectable. He was in fact held by all the hobbits of the neighbourhood to be 'queer' - except by his nephews and nieces on the Took side, but even theyw ere not encouraged in their friendship by their elders." The Hobbit, Chapter XIX: The Last Stage (page 275 of the 2012 Collector's Edition).

and while Samwise did eventually marry the relationship between Frodo and he was definitely homoerotic even if not consummated

Is there any better reason to hate the hobbits? Disgusting smug self-satisfied narrow-minded bigoted bourgie jingo hipped-up moles with horrible feet. Ugh.

But hey, at least they didn't crucify the ONE among them who displayed some curiosity, love for adventure and discovery, capacity for friendship beyond one's snug little nest. Noooo--just give him the cold shoulder and isolate him like a freak.

I'd give the lot to Sauron to snack on, tbqh.

I noticed this on a recent reread. There's also something about Frodo keeping a lot of young male hobbits about. Mhmmm.
