Hello,

This is an early advisory for everyone. The book "Atonement" by
Ian McEwan is going to be shown as a movie on December 7, 2007.
Most of you may have read the book... but I haven't read it yet ,
but I'm so excited to read it soon.

---------------------------------------------
The following are the reasons why everyone should read first the
book.
1. The book is a 2001 Booker Prize Finalist
2. The book is a 2002 LATimes–Fiction winner
3. The book is a 2001 JT Black-Fiction finalist
4. The book is a 2001 Whitbread-Novel finalist
5. The book is a 2002 NBCC–Fiction winner
6. Included in "1001 books you must read before you die"
7 Included in "1000 greatest literature of all time"
8. Included in Time's "100 best novels from 1923 to present".

--------------------------------------------------------
The following are the reasons why everyone should watch the movie

1. Starring Keira Knightley - Today's one of hottest actresses , who
was nominated last year as best actress in the movie "Pride and
Prejudice".

2. Starring James McAvoy - who played the role Mr. Tumnus in the
movie "The Chronicles of Narnia" and who co starred in the
movie "Last King of Scotland" opposite Forrest Whitaker, and who I
expect to become the next acclaimed British dramatic actor in the
ranks of Ralphe Fiennes and Daniel Lewis.

3. The movie is just the second film directed by Joe Wright - The
first one was "Pride and Prejudice" which garnered an "A-" rating
from Yahoo critics and obtained a number Oscar nominations.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I hope I was able to convince everyone ... ( hehe )

Thanks

-Erick

The movie website is already up:

Isn't the cast amazing, or what? Can't wait. It's going to be released on Sept. 7 in the UK.

>2 dancerinthedark: Couldn't get your link to work dancerinthedark, but there are plenty of trailers on YouTube for anyone wanting a sneak preview. As usual trailers are potential spoilers (for me, anyhow) so beware. I've read the book, though, so I don't mind.

Re: casting.... not Keira, again...?! :P She's OK, I suppose! And I was kind of hoping for Jude Law as Robbie :)

Vanessa Redgrave is playing the older Brionny Tallis. I also love that Romola Garai is cast as the post-pubescent Brionny. I saw her in the Reese Witherspoon v. of Vanity Fair and in the Anne Hathaway v. of Nicholas Nickleby, and she seemed so vulnerable and innocent. She's perfect for her role in Atonement.

Jude Law as Robbie...hmmm...if he could pass for a 23-yr-old, I guess.

As for Keira Knightley, when Ian McEwan described Cecilia as "horsey", I had her in mind.

Agreed, a little too mature for the role unfortunately.

>4 dancerinthedark: if you think Keira Knightley is 'horsey' I'm not sure you understand what 'horsey' means. A 'horsey' woman is large and athletic, and usually (relatively) unattractive.

>6 Jargoneer: Evidently, it was McEwan himself who described Cecilia as having a 'horseyish face' - striking, rather than pretty. Thus, some feel Knightly is too pretty and not 'horsey' enough :P

Yes, that's about it. ;)

I'm not really a Keira Knightley fan. Part of it is her face (do people find her pretty?!?!), but mostly it's that she can't really act.

I'm not really understanding the casting of Romola Garai as Briony, though. Is she supposed to be Cecilia's younger sister? But isn't Garai older than Knightley?

Some people find KK very attractive - she won the poll for FHM 100 Sexiest Women in 2006 (although she dropped to 12th this year) and she is in the top 20 in the majority of the other lists.

Garai is 3 years older than Knightly.

I recently saw this on DVD, and it was pretty good. I love James MacAvoy as Robbie (not sure where the Jude Law info came from--casting change?). I usually detest Keira Knightly, but she didn't ruin the movie or anything. I'd say if you liked the book, give the movie a chance.
