Note: This is not a" spam". This website really gives great ideas for renovating your study cum living rooms.

It will be nice to have these library shelves in a limited space of apartment living anywhere in the world.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Step three of how to "decorate" a bookcase: "Fill unused spaces with attractive boxes." Unused spaces? Are they kidding me? ;)

I'm with MrsLee on that one.

MrsLee, you reminded me of my visit to a card store this morning. (Actually, it's a bookshop that sells cards but I ignored the books. Honest.)

There was a card with a lady holding a bottle of wine on the front. She was saying, "I have a friend who makes icecubes from leftover wine. I didn't know that was possible."

Inside the card she continues, "...to have leftover wine, that is."

Same principle with "unsed spaces" on a bookshelf.

:D I think I agree with the woman on the wine, too.

Is it just me or are many of the "libraries" in the article linked to in post #1 devoid of books?

It's not just you. I noticed exactly the same thing. I particularly noted the library that was supposed to serve as one's dining room as well. I swear my first thought was What, and get something spilled on the books?

For that matter, any table in my house -- any flat surface -- will inevitably have piles of books placed atop it and then if I were to have dinner guests, I am forced to find a place to put those piles. It's just totally impractical as a proposition for space. Even now there are piles on my dining table of Jane Austen novels, criticism and sequels. Right there beside my laptop. And the candle, in case the power goes.

You reminded me to a visit to a wonderful restaurant in Laragh, County Wicklow. The main dining room is, as far as I can recall, called the Joyce Room. It has books displayed around the room, mostly on high shelves and some in cabinets. They do, however, have some books displayed on little reading stands at several points around the room without any protection. These books are old, old books. (I think the first editions are "in" the cabinets, thank goodness.)

The first time I dined in that room it was packed and there were children running around. I spent more time watching and worrying about the children possibly damaging the books than I did on enjoying my beautiful roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding. (By the way, the Wicklow Heather is only the second place I have found that makes a perfect Yorkshire Pudding. The other one was a pub in a village called Broadway in the English midlands. That was forty years ago.)

I noticed the lack of books as well, but wondered if there was some trick they were using like doors on cabinets to keep them behind. I didn't have time to read, so only flipped quickly through some pictures.

For the nerds who loved to read while eating in the restaurants around the world. It is a wacky world.

Another gimmick: Do you travel to enjoy your vacation or read books?
