Most of us know this story, but feel free to post ***Spoilers*** warnings if you want to discuss the plot.

Carry on...

As I am reading, I have noticed how close the 1951 movie's dialogue is to the book!

While I was reading, I kept thinking that I was glad I had seen the movie first. I usually prefer to read a book before I see the movie.

The back cover had an interesting piece of information: " . . . the story's popularity played a critical role in redefining the importance of Christmas and the major sentiments associated with the holiday. Few modern readers realize that A Christmas Carol was written during a time of decline in the old Christmas traditions".

I did not know about the decline, interesting.

I read this every Christmas, carrying on a family tradition. Haven't started it yet this year, though -- I'll probably wait until closer to the day.

2. I haven't seen that version but I love the one with George C. Scott. Though I still maintain that the greatest version ever was the one made by Disney (Mickey's Christmas Carol). I watch it every year.

I like the Patrick Stewart version (1999), myself.

The George C. Scott version is my second favorite.

If you have not watched the Alastair Sim version, you should. It's the definitive one for me.

My personal favourite is the Muppet Christmas carol. Now that's fun.

The Alastair Sim film is my favourite and I always listen to the audiobook read by Anton Lesser. I shall be starting it in a day or two.
