Between page 58 and 59 there is a whole conversation about smart pigs. I was interested to see such a thing taking place at this time. We know now that they're smart, but it would certainly be reasonable that farmers and people who were closer to the animals back then (because they had to be) understood the intelligence of the animals they worked with or cared for. People say we're too detached from animals today, meaning we don't know where our food comes from. That's true, but we're too detached from them in this way too. We've lost our understanding.

The two horses tore across the packed earth of the drill ground, and for the first time in his life Johnny heard that wonderful music--galloping hooves on hard earth. p117
It's true. There's nothing like the sound of a running horse. Again with knowing animals.

For the dead should not look at the living--nor the living too long upon the dead. p207
Loved this line.

Page 253. All of it. That's about all I can say for this. Love the whole thing. And again for the ending. There's just nothing to say about how much I enjoy reading this book and getting to these things.
