Santa and other family well-wishers provided me with the following books for the holidays:

Target: Rabaul: The Allied Siege of Japan's Most Infamous Stronghold by Bruce Gamble

Pacific Blitzkrieg: World War II in the Central Pacific by Sharon Tosi Lacey

The U.S. Navy and the War in Europe by Robert C. Stern

Did you get any good titles?

A Call to Arms: Mobilizing America for World War II by Maury Klein
European Warfare in a Global Context, 1660-1815 (Warfare and History) by Jeremy Black..whom I like a lot.

ROMAN CONQUESTS: EGYPT AND JUDAEA
by John D Grainger
The Gathering Storm: Naval War in Northern Europe, September 1939 to April 1940 by Geirr Haarr...a really good looking book.
The Bombing War: Europe 1939-1945 by Richard Overy, another author I really enjoy.

RE: 2

Tim,

Is it possible that your Santa is a pacifist?

RE: 4

The Gathering Storm: The Naval War September 1939 to April 1940 by Geirr Haarr is definitely on my list of the top 10 naval WWII books of 2013.

The first gift I opened was The Monuments Men. I forced myself to open the other gifts before I started reading it.

Oh. My mother gave me that last year. She has some connection to the author, as I recall. I'm interested to know if it's good.

So far yes, it is very good. I have had it on my wish list thanks to my interest in public history, I probably got it because George Clooney is making it into a movie.

When you're done with it, plus favor us with a review of the Maury Klein book. I've considered it, but it has received decidedly mixed reviews on Amazon.

It like to pick up the book by Haarr at some point....
