My Title is supposed to say: Making her debut in the ROOT Challenge - It's RubyandtheTwins! (Yes, I'm Done Lurking and Ready to Make a Dent in my Bookshelves!) But I apparently ran out of space. :)

Hello everyone! :) It's very nice to meet you all and I hope to read some really good books this year! :) Although this is my first year doing this challenge, I have inherited my love of reading from my mother - MoonshineandRosefire! I've always had a book in my hand, from the time I could read. And before that, my mom would read to me! she taught me to read by age four, but I still loved to have her read to me. :)

Anyway in 2013, I read 47 books - and since it's worked so well for Mom - I'll increase that total by one more for 2014. My Projected Goal For 2014: 48 Books Read in 2014!

And since I'm my mother's daughter, I've already managed to acquire 483 books in 2014 and donated or purged 59. (at least, so far) What can I say? LOL! :)

Hello and welcome. Good luck on your challenge. You and your mother really get me thinking if I also should do some stats about time between acqusition and reading. But I think I am to afraid. I know I've got some books that have been sitting on my shelves for more than 5 years (some even for 10!)...

Welcome to the group! Isn't it fun doing things with your mom? Even when it's something like this where you're doing your own thing, it's cool that you're doing your own thing together. :) I keep telling this to both my daughter and my mom, in hopes I can get one or the other of them to join me here.

Hi! Welcome to the group! I like the full version of your thread title.

Maybe the running out of space in the thread title thing is symbolic of how we're all running out of space on our bookshelves? :)

#4 - Hello Tess, and thank you for the warm welcome :) It's very nice to meet you. As regards my time between acquisition and purging - that's my best rough guess (I probably have many books on my bookshelf that have been with me much longer, but I'm a little wary about hazarding a closer guess)

Yep, I'm guessing that if I tell myself that a particular book has sat unread on on my bookshelf for 10+ years, I would faint away dead! :) LOL!!

#5 - Hello Tallulah_Rose! :) (love the name) It's very nice to meet you, and thank you very much for the warm welcome to the challenge as well as to the group! I know what you mean, Tallulah, I shudder to think how long some books may have languished on my bookshelf - I seem have contracted a severe case of my mom's "rereaditis" - apparently it's contagious! :) LOL!

#15 ruby: "rereaditis" really seems t be contagous. I am definitely suffering from a severe version, since I hav a habit of rereading the books I liked. I tend to reread the whole HP all 2 years or so and am just now giving a reread to a book I read 4 years ago.

some background on my name: It's loaned from a song from the group 'Sonata Arctica'. The song is called Tallulah and is just so beautiful. It's a finnish group and the do some good music. I loved them years ago. The #Rose' just is there, I don't know why, because I don't even like roses... Well... curious.

Last comment: The first ROOT I finished this year has been sitting on my shelves for either 15 or 13 years, I don't remember exactly on which occasion I bought it.

It's wonderful that we now have generational ROOTers!

#7 - Hello Merryann, it's wonderful to meet you, as well! Yes, I really love to do things with my mom - reading, shopping, going to the library, or going to lunch! :) It doesn't really matter what we do together, we always have fun :) We have friends that we usually go to lunch with once a week. There's myself, my mom, my good friend Lisa, and her mother, Sylvia - we make up a foursome and usually go out to Red Lobster.

I say that Lisa is my friend, but that isn't really correct - My mom and I are actually both great friends of Lisa and her mom. I've worked with Lisa over many, many years, and we have just become friends with each other over that time. She's know myself and my family since I was about 14 or 15.

#9 - Hello Vivienne, it's very nice to meet you as well! :) My closest relatives (who aren't still living in Ireland, England, or Australia) live in Ontario - they've been there for almost 40 years - I think? :) It's my dad's older brother, his wife, and my two cousins. Did you settle in Canada at a young age, as well?

Mareena, I was 21 when I came to Canada with my husband and newborn baby. I have no siblings and our, now aging, families are small and scattered, none in Canada. Our son married but they have no children. We four stay close to each other and are the best of friends.

Hi! from another newbie. I am so impressed by your monthly chart (and that you have already started to fill it out. Very organized. Don't worry about how long a book has been in the tbr pile, it won't go bad. (Although I have occasionally felt I should have read a book when I was younger. just not very often) I had a Mother who read to me too. And I not only inherited the love of reading, but also some of her stash. They comfort me, even though I haven't read them all.
