Well, 2013 was not a good reading year for me. I am hoping to read more this year.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Same to you, BJ. We sure missed you in Joplin this year. Are we going to have to move the location to Tulsa to get you back? I hope things are going well for you and that you have more time for reading in 2014. Cheers!

I cannot believe that I have not listed any books yet.

I am still not getting much reading time, plus I am reading a super-long 8 volumes in 1 collection called Plain and Parochial Sermons by John Henry Newman. I am past page 1300 but still have 400 pages to go. I hope to finish before the end of the year.

Here is my list, which includes some quite short ones, in order to clear off the shelves:
1. Stations of the Cross for the Holy Souls in Purgatory by Susan Tassone
2. Meditations on the Stations of the Cross
3. The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy
4. Left to Tell by Immaculee Ilibagiza
5. A Map of Tulsa by Benjamin Lytal
6. Do You Say Your Prayers Well My Children?
7. The Hoarder in You: How to Live a Happier, Healthier, Uncluttered Life by Robin Zasio -- Can you guess what I hoard? Have I changed my ways?
8. Wisdom for Graduates: Words to the Wise from the Even Wiser by Allison Bing
9. John Paul II and the Meaning of Suffering: Lessons from a Spiritual Master by Robert G. Schroeder
10. Graduation Pooh by Disney
11. Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly
12. Something Other Than God by Jennifer Fulwiler
13. Perceptions: Observations on Everyday Life Volume X by Tom Harrison
14. Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves by Jason Evert
15. Pay it Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde

And I will continue on another post.

Continuing with my list:
16. The Long Road to Gettysburg! by Jim Murphy
17. Yotsuba&! Volume 11 by Kiyohiko Azuma
18. Mind Prey by John Sandford
19. Yotsuba&! Volume 12 by Kiyohiko Azuma
20. Hiroshima by John Hersey
21. My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier
22. The Amish School by Sara E. Fisher and Rachel K. Stahl
23. The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford
24. Legion of Mary: School for Saints by Rev. Msgr. Thomas B. Falls

In addition to the endless Plain and Parochial Sermons, I just started The Inimitable Jeeves. It is time to read something by Wodehouse.

I would like to go to the book store in Joplin. Tuesdays are hard because I have to be back to host Bible study. But I have missed going. So please tell me when y'all are going, Donna.

In case you don't get back to my thread, BJ, we will be going to Joplin on Tuesday, December 2. It's always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Kind of scary that it is in December! I may have to do some Christmas shopping at the game store adjoining Changing Hands. Maybe you can get someone to take your place hosting your Bible Study that week so you don't have to rush off. Either way, we'll be glad to see you!

That is the last Bible study until January, so I do need to be there. However, I really do enjoy the trip to Joplin. Please let me know what time. I was thinking 10 and thanks for reminding me of the name of the book store.

Here are a few more books:
25. Parochial and Plain Sermons by John Henry Newman. I finally finished it. This one took me almost all year to read. I marked the ones I would like to return to someday. I feel like I should reread the entire book, but I do not think that I ever will. Amazingly, a friend of mine has borrowed it already!
26. Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Marian Prayer Program 2013-2014
27. Fool Moon by Jim Butcher. This is book 2 in the Dresden series, and I enjoyed reading it. I will definitely check out book 3!

I am still reading The Inimitable Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse and am about halfway through. It got pushed aside for werewolves.

I attended the meet-up in Joplin and had so much fun! And I wrecked my tbr by buying too many books. Here is what I bought:
The Raj Quartet by Paul Scott (in 4 separate volumes)
Centennial by James Michener
Typhoon by Robin White
The Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett
God Game by Andrew Greeley
The A. B. C. Murders by Agatha Christie
Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie
Violent Ward by Len Deighton
War Ship by Charles D. Taylor
A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin
An Incident in Iceland by Noah Webster
Happy are Those Who Thirst for Justice by Andrew Greeley
All Around the Town by Mary Higgins Clark
The Mabinogion by Anonymous
The Wreck of the Titan or Futility by Morgan Robertson
The Island of the Day Before by Umberto Eco
Pegasus Descending by James Lee Burke
Honor Bound by W. E. B. Griffin
Charity by Len Deighton
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley
The Plato Papers by Peter Ackroyd
Thirteen Stories by Eudora Welty
Absolute Friends by John le Carre
He Sees You When You're Sleeping by Mary Higgins Clark & Carol Higgins Clark
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers
The Prodigal Spy by Joseph Kanon
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
Faith by Len Deighton.

My biggest problem is that I bought more books than I have read all year to date. And there is no room on the shelves. However, most of the books cost a quarter and lots were in the one dollar range. So it was a great deal!

What a great haul, BJ!!!! What a great trip!
My advice: start with the Paul Scott and take time out fo the S. Kearsley from time to time.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is just the time of year when I think about what I want to read next. I just hope I read more next year than I have read this year.

28. The Inimitable Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse. This book was a little silly, but quite fun. I plan to read more Wodehouse, but not back to back.

I am close on two more books. Maybe I can make 30 this year.

29. The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis. This is the next book in the Chronicles of Narnia. At first, I was not sure that I cared for it, but I liked it better as I went along. I think I am halfway through the series.

30. Triumph: The Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church by H. W. Crocker. 2000 years of history in 427 pages.

I am almost finished with a Christmas themed book, so I guess I will make 31 this year.

31. The Christmas Train by David Baldacci. Last book for 2014. I wanted to read this for the Christmas theme. It started slow for me, but ultimately, I enjoyed this book. Happy New Year, everyone!
