I saw this yesterday and was pretty disgusted. Yes, it was great that the women got to act their asses off, but what a brutal depiction of women. Meryl Streep's mother character is a mean-spirited, grasping ogre; her sister is a typical castrating female and it appears to be all because their mother was a sadist. Plus it's 108 humid degrees in the Midwest and almost everyone wears long sleeved shirts, long pants or skirts and sweaters or jackets. I suppose that's a metaphor for self destruction, but it didn't ring any more true than the rest of the movie.
