I like the new site, and the fact that it's currently featuring the super-cute picture of young Daphne du Maurier. I need to read more of du Maurier's novels and then come back to England and visit Cornwall. I've only read Rebecca so far, and of course I loved it. Any suggestions for my next du Maurier?
There was quite a good drama on the BBC in May based on du Maurier's letters (starring Geraldine Somerville, better known for her brief appearances as Lily Potter in the Harry Potter films). What a fascinating woman du Maurier was!

My favorites are House on the Strand, My Cousin Rachel, The Scapegoat and of course Rebecca. :)
The only one I've read and felt disappointed in was The Parasites, but I have not read them all. I think I have seen a memoir by her daughter somewhere...

I just sent an email to VMC asking if we could use that du Maurier picture for her author page here at LT. Has anyone else done this for other authors at VMC? If so, what has their response been like? They have a lot of good pictures for authors that don't have pictures here.

My boyfriend and I were camping last weekend in Bodinnick - where Ferryside (Daphne du Maurier's house) is. While we were waiting for the ferry, her son Kits Browning came out of the house and said hello to us!! My boyfriend couldn't understand why that thrilled me so much. (insert eye rolling here)

Wow! That's a holiday you won't forget. I was looking at the archives on the Woman's Hour website this morning and they have some photos of du Maurier 'country':

You can also 'listen again' to the programmes.

With regard to good books by Daphne duMaurier, I just finished re-reading My Cousin, Rachel. I thought it was truly excellent, seamless characterization and compelling flow. The first time through, one wonders if Rachel is guilty while the second time through, one wonders if Philip is trustworthy as a narrator. Very interesting work.

Hi - could someone please note Virago's web address in this thread? I can't seem to find it. Thanks!

I noticed within Virago's new site that several of the 'links' were bad. So I sent them an email with replacement links. Donna Coonan, Commissioning Editor, was so thankful, she insisted on sending me a 'goodie bag'.
Yesterday, in the mail, I received: Angel by Elizabeth Taylor, Jamaica Inn by Daphne Du Maurier, The Door by Margaret Atwood, Loitering with Intent by Muriel Spark and Beyond These Walls by Janina Bauman.
How cool is that!

I am so jealous! But that was very thoughtful of you to send the links. I've had only one email exchange with Donna Coonan, but she seemed really nice and helpful.
