I won't be starting Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom for a week or two but I wanted to get the topic set up.

Ah good, I was contemplating tossing it up earlier, since I started this morning, but then didn't. :P I'm still working on some other stuff too, so it'll probably be around a week for me, too, before I really get into it much.

Well I lied, I'm on p226 right now, making much faster progress than I'd anticipated! It's a great read so far, and I actually just finished South Africa: The first man, the last nation around a month ago, which ties in nicely and gives a broader view of the history and battles going on that he talks about.

You're way ahead of me, but I agree, this is a good read.

I usually have several things going at once, and sometimes they give interesting comparisons. This morning I was reading Mark 14:53-72 (Jesus before the high priest). Then later chapters 23-25 of this about the arrests of so many leaders in 1956. Witnesses that can't agree, and are reporting on speeches in languages they don't understand. Judges that are desparate to find some reason to say, 'Guilty!' It seems that not much changed in nearly 2000 years.

BTW, I love Mandela's sense of humour. He reports on the terrible conditions in the prison, but then rejoices that all these leaders finally had the opportunity to meet together and learn from each other.

Right? He was so amazing. So few people could keep up the incredible good feeling that he had, through all that time unjustly in prison!

Finished. All I can think of to say now is, 'Wow!' South Africa was very lucky to have had someone like him.
