Book Featuring Cats from my Youth

Ah, those many decades ago... it was the early seventies when I read a book in my school library that has stayed with me forever. Set in a Dystopian future, talking, very human cats had become the apex species. I don't remember the plot, but the action all took place in an abandoned human university, now occupied by the feline inheritors of the Earth.

Absolutely! Thank you Anna. You know that feeling when you can't... remember... a word... on the tip... of... your... tongue? You just repealed me from that sensation, which -- for years now -- has come occasionally to haunt me.

I remember first seeing the concrete canyons of the University of East Anglia as a kid, and utterly believing it was where this book was set. I must immediately order a copy, to see if it's as great as I remember it being. Only The Weirdstone of Brisingamen has been, thus far.

Glad I could help! I have some books that i will just never find... One mass market paperback fantasy about woodworker wizards that I want so badly to read again... Sigh. Hope this book is as good for you as an adult as it was when you were a kid!

Ha! I checked back on this thread in the hopes someone would know @anna_in_pdx's lost title. Woodworking wizards, oh my! I've not read any of Modesitt's books; guess I'll start with that one.
