I've just added a whole slew of the recently-begun (and/or completed) LLs to the main Legacy Libraries page and updated statuses on others. I think I'm all caught up now, but if there's anything I've forgotten, please let me know!

I'm continuing to work through the @IsaiahThomas library at the moment, making slow progress on that monster.

Anything anybody needs? I've been MARC-importing in quite a few libraries for @jcburlinson from the HRC, and they've now uploaded a list of their author libraries at http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/collections/books/holdings/libraries/pdf/Authors_Libra..., so if there are folks there whose libraries you'd like to add/tidy up (usually there's a bit of extra work that needs doing after the MARC comes in), just let me know and I can arrange the import of MARC records.

>1 JBD1: Jeremy -- still cleaning up Edith Sitwell, but should be through in a week or two at most. More than happy to contribute to any or all of the others. Just let me know what you might see as priorities. Glad to see the HRC upload function is working so well now. Thanks.

ETA: The link you provided is "forbidden". Does one need a special password?

When I click it I get
"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /collections/books/holdings/libraries/pdf/Authors_Libraries_Ransom_Center.pdf on this server."

Same thing happen if I shorten the link to http://is.gd/aWRnlT ?

Yup. And I haven't a clue.

...But just for kicks I tried on my desktop, and it worked fine. Huh.

I can read both links, no problem.

I tried both links and vas verboten!

I find it odd that rather than neglecting to load or giving some other kind of error, it says forbidden. On my laptop I block cookies, and have an outdated OS with an outdated browser, but I've never had either of those things result in a "forbidden" page.

So far, I've only tried my desktop, which has a version of Vista, for God's sakes! I'll try the iPad, but hate doing this kind of thing on a tablet. I guess I could dust off my laptop, but the battery's probably got to be replaced. Time marches on, and it appears to like marching right over me!

>10 jburlinson: What browser is it you're using on Vista? I don't see why it should produce that result, but given that mine that does get the same is outdated, it does make me wonder. The one that it worked fine on is Win7 in Fx 31.

The link opens for me on Google Chrome and on Firefox. But it doesn't open on my outdated Safari.

I had to take a break from Maggie L. Walker (https://www.librarything.com/profile/maggielwalker) due to having to move cities, but hope to pick it back up soon. Help is always appreciated!

>13 waitingtoderail: - Ah, cool, I need to set her up with an LL profile. Could you add a note on sources in the "About my library" section on the profile page so we know where the books are coming from?

Done!

Nietzsche has made a big leap from 40 to 300. The remaining large groups of books are mostly tedious Greek and Latin classics. Hope to find some time for them in September.

I don't see that anyone has started one for Dr. Maya Angelou. Her estate sale was held just yesterday in Greensboro, NC and included her books. Might not be too late to get an auction catalog in case anyone is interested.

Oh my goodness I hope someone cataloged those books but somehow I doubt it. UGH. See pics at http://www.estatesales.net/NC/Winston-Salem/27106/952257

GAHHHH!! WHAT!!?? Why was her library not preserved!!?? I feel sick....

I'd like to think that her working library would be important enough to be preserved, but then I read the same thing happened to her art collection in April.

I would guess that the auctioneers would have had to catalogue everything for insurances purposes. Maybe a list exists somewhere.

Oh God. No. No.

Why does this keep happening? Why don't people get that the books of writers need to be preserved, or if not preserved at least recorded? And Angelou is a giant. This is such a loss.

Okay, I'm escalating this one. I'm messaging with Jeremy and other potential allies to see if we can't find out more. At the least there ought to be pictures of the shelves, and people tweeting "Hooray I picked up Angelou's copy of Strunk and White!"

This makes me so angry and sad. I really hope this isn't gone.

FWIW, we COULD do the books on her shelves from the spines, I think. But we'd need higher quality photos for most of it.

Slightly better images posted to their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/LastersFineArt

If Lasters didn't catalog, perhaps they at least took individual photos of objects or better, sharper photos of shelves.

Update: Laster's didn't catalog, and library that has her personal archives probably doesn't have list either (though it sounds like they might have some of her personal books that were not part of this sale).

Can we move this into a new thread here in LL to help signal boost?
