I'm kicking off this month with The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, which hopefully will count for the MysteryCAT! What are you reading right now?
2dudes22
I've got 2 carry-overs from Aug - My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell and Sister of My Heart by Chitra Divakaruni. But it's hot and sticky here today and neither of them is striking my mood so I think I might pull Booked to Die by John Dunning off my shelf for the mystery CAT even though it's a reread.
3whitewavedarling
I'm still slowly finishing Into the Great Wide Open. I'm also just starting Playing for Pizza and True Stories, Well Told. Work is picking up, though, so we'll see how many I get through this month. August was a huge reading month for me, but this coming month is probably going to be a bit slower...
4sturlington
I'm reading The Prophet for the random cat and The Grand Complication for the mystery cat.
5japaul22
I've just finished one of this year's Booker nominees, The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt. Now I'm focusing on A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman and Alberta and Freedom by Cora Sandel.
6DeltaQueen50
I am reading A Division of the Spoils by Paul Scott, and to keep it a little lighter I am also reading The Betrayal of the Blood Lily by Lauren Willig and Cress by Marissa Meyer.
7lsh63
Well since The Secret Place is ready for download, I will be reading that and work on finishing Rough Justice and Reunion in Death .
One more day of R & R and back to work tomorrow. No housework completed, just lots of reading. I'd better get cracking:)

8LittleTaiko
Working my way through An Untamed State by Roxane Gay. Tough but good read so far.
9rabbitprincess
Preparing to start Unprintable, by Julie Kaewert, for the September MysteryCAT.
10majkia
I finished The Marco Effect latest in the Department Q series. It was terrific as are the previous books in the series.
11sturlington
Now reading Midnight in Peking for the Geo cat.
12LittleTaiko
Just started the latest Three Pines book - The Long Way Home - so nice to be back with all of them again.
13-Eva-
I'm currently reading The Shadow of the Wind, which I actually started a few years ago on a vacation (or rather on its 15-hour flight), but then ended up leaving my copy with the friend I was visiting. I got about 1/3 in, but I must not have paid full attention (or any at all), because it turns out I remember close to nothing about the plot. So, completely new read for me! :)
14RidgewayGirl
I'm reading Inspector Imanishi Investigates by Seicho Matsumoto for the GeoCAT. I'm also reading Stefan Zweig's The Post Office Girl because I thought I should read more of the German-language classics and it has turned out to be fantastic.
15christina_reads
>13 -Eva-: Me too! (Although I've never tried to read it before.) About 20% through it now.
16LittleTaiko
Also reading All the Light We Cannot See.
17cbl_tn
I finished Murder on Lexington Avenue this afternoon. I'm still working on The Guns of August, which I didn't manage to finish last month. I'll see if I can get through the last couple of chapters this weekend. I'm also reading The Calligrapher's Daughter for the GeoCAT. My current audiobook is Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii.
18christina_reads
I'm about to start The Mark of the Midnight Manzanilla by Lauren Willig, the most recent Pink Carnation book.
19whitewavedarling
I've just started The Lotus and the Storm, and I'll be starting The Whale Caller tonight as my bed-side reading :) Meanwhile, I'm still wandering through True Stories, Well Told...
20DeltaQueen50
I am reading A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra. I ordered this book from the library last April and it has finally shown up! I am also reading The House of a Thousand Candles by Meredith Nicholson, originally published in 1906, this classic mystery will help close out another category in my challenge.
21LittleTaiko
>20 DeltaQueen50: - Ooh, I hope you like A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. It was one of my five star books from last year.
22dudes22
I've finished My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durell which I enjoyed immensely and have started A Killer Plot by Ellery Adams for the Sep Mystery Cat. And still working on Sister of My Heart by Chitra Divakaruni.
23lsh63
I've finished The Valley of Amazement, which was pretty good, but the ending was kind of weak. I suppose if I'm reading a whopper of a book, I'd like a more memorable ending, lol. Maybe there will be a sequel or something.
That being said, Amy Tan always does a good job portraying the complex relationships of mothers and daughters in her books. The characters of Lucia, and Violet were fleshed out very well, but the characterization of Violet's daughter Flora, seemed just thrown in to me.

I'm starting Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. I also plan to watch "Bladerunner" (for the first time!) sometime this month.
25DeltaQueen50
>21 LittleTaiko: A Constellation of Vital Phenomena will definitely be on my list of top books for this year, Stacy. What a powerful read this is!
26LittleTaiko
>25 DeltaQueen50: So glad you liked it. It started slow for me and then all of a sudden I was hooked. Very powerful indeed.
27rabbitprincess
Finished Breakheart Pass, by Alistair MacLean, and have started A Briefer History of Time, by Stephen Hawking.
28LittleTaiko
Reading Buffalo Jump by Howard Shruer. Right now I'm intrigued and curious to see how it turns out.
29whitewavedarling
I read Rhyming Love and Death by Amos Oz today--more novella than novel, but absolutely wonderful. Full review written. Meanwhile, I'll probably be finishing Denise Levertov's Oblique Prayers tonight. Meanwhile, I'm still wandering through The Whale Caller, and about to start The Oath.
30sturlington
Now reading The Bone Clocks, David Mitchell's new one. Very strange so far.
31christina_reads
I've just begun Love's Shadow by Ada Leverson.
32cbl_tn
I'm still reading The Calligrapher's Daughter, and I've picked up Homicide in Hardcover for a light weekend read. I'm almost finished with the audio of The King's Speech and I'll be starting A Simple Murder next.
33dudes22
Since I last posted, I've finished A Killer Plot and The Red Thread. I'm still working on Sister of My Heart and I need to see if I can find another book I can finish before we leave on vacation Thurs.
34christina_reads
I just finished Murder at the Brightwell by Ashley Weaver and am now reading Silence by Shusaku Endo.
35rabbitprincess
One of my mum's Ian Rankins, Dead Souls, came home with me after my vacation. On the iPad I'm still reading A Briefer History of Time and have also acquired The Field of Blood, by Denise Mina... I found Series 1 of the TV adaptation on iTunes and want to read the source material first.
36LittleTaiko
Finished Buffalo Jump, have started A Killer Read, and am about to start The Passage. I borrowed The Passage from a friend of mine about two years ago and still haven't read it. Shame on me.
37cbl_tn
I'm just starting The Memory of Love and I'm about an hour into the audio version of A Simple Murder.
39RidgewayGirl
I've started Buffalo Jump by Howard Shrier for the RandomCAT and at LittleTaiko's recommendation. I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far.
40dudes22
I was going to download it (Buffalo Jump) for vacation but, alas, not available as an ebook. Guess it will go on my "recommended by Lt" list.
41LittleTaiko
>39 RidgewayGirl: - Yea! Glad you are liking it so far.
43DeltaQueen50
Looks like the last book of my challenge will be The Son by Philipp Meyer. It's an epic story of Texas and I am really enjoying the read. I am also about to start Who Shot the Water Buffalo? for this months GeoCat.
44lsh63
Judy: The Son was a good book, I really enjoyed it. I'm going back and forth with the last two books of my challenge: Lonesome Dove, which is a reread for me, but it's just as captivating as it was the first time. I read two other books in the series, and didn't want it to end, so I decided a reread was in order.
The other book I'm reading is Original Sin, which is taking a while for me to get into, but I should know by now that P.D. James is an author who likes to take her time with her plotting.

45LittleTaiko
Made a little progress in The Passage and have also started Turn of the Screw and The Woman in White.
46dudes22
The wi-fi where we are on vacation is really slow. I can barely keep up reading threads, when they do decide to load. And I'm sharing my iPad with y husband this trip, so even less time than usual. So I'll just post here and on my own thread later when we move to another location. I've finished Heart of My Sister by Chitra Divakaruni and have started If Books Could Kill by Kate Carlisle and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.
I downloaded 4 books before we left on vacation but have been too busy to make much headway in them.

47DeltaQueen50
I am now Lost in the Barrens with Farley Mowat, a little dated but overall excellent YA adventure story. I am just starting Living Proof by John Harvey for the September MysteryCat.
48christina_reads
I'm starting The Winter Long, the latest Toby Daye book by Seanan McGuire.
49whitewavedarling
I think I'm going to start Cider House Rules fairly soon...it's the book I've earmarked for my October GastroCat Challenge read, but I think I need the extra reading time...
50rabbitprincess
Today I started The Design of Everyday Things, by Donald A. Norman, and it's quite interesting so far. It also makes me feel better about those times when I can't figure out how something works.
51dudes22
I have finished If Books Could Kill by Kate Carlisle and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. I'm working on The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag by Alan Bradley for the Sept Random CAT and I think I might start my Oct Geo book since it's about 600 pages - The Seamstress by Francis De Pontes Peebles.
52christina_reads
I'm reading The Midnight Queen by Sylvia Izzo Hunter and will hopefully finish by tomorrow night!
