Time to start thinking about our next two Group Reads. Please nominate up to two books you would like to include as Group Reads, and second as many nominated books as you like. We will have a poll to decide the two books in about five days time.

I'd like to nominate Senor Vivo and the Coca Lord and House of Leaves (I've heard it is kind of a spooky/Halloween-y read).
4ELiz_M
I nominate Les Enfants Terribles by Jean Cocteau and A Woman's Life by Guy de Maupassant.
6japaul22
I'll second Les Enfants Terribles and A Woman's Life.
7ELiz_M
I second Paradise of the Blind.

I'll nominate The Children's Book en He Knew He Was Right.

I'm not going to nominate books as I haven't read nearly as many as other people but I would like to put in my preference for
1. Books that are slightly more modern (because I am heavily slanted towards the classics at the moment
2. Books that are relatively easy to get hold of
I also prefer books that are on the 2012 list 'cos that's the one I'm using ;-)

I'll second The Children's Book. That's been sitting on my shelf forever!
>9 M1nks: you should go for it and nominate some books! Anything that gets seconded here will be out in a poll and you'll be able to vote for as many books as you like.

I'll second New York Trilogy and He Knew He Was Right.
12arukiyomi
I'll second The Waves... cos it's one of my all time faves and I'd love to see what others think
13annamorphic
I second Testament of Youth, a book I really want to read. And I nominate The Unbearable Lightness of Being, although perhaps everybody but me has already read it.
14ursula
I'll second The Unbearable Lightness of Being, as evidence that you have company of at least one in not having read it. :)

This is such a great bunch of nominations. Only one book I've read before, The New York Trilogy, and even that is one I know would be a good group read. I'm already psyched to do whichever ones win.

The poll is now closed and we have two books.
Paradise of the Blind by Duong Thu Huong came out on top with 11 votes and will be our October read, and Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain was second with 10 votes and will be our November read.
I'll set up threads for these at the start of the respective months.

Oh wow, both my nominations were chosen. I suppose I should actually join in the group read this time.

So excited to read Testament of Youth!! Just ordered it on ebay. I already got Paradise of the Blind because it seemed pretty certain to be a winner. So I'm all set.
23sjmccreary
I've also already ordered Paradise of the Blind and it's ready for me to pick up, but was tricked by early voting results into requesting The Unbearable Lightness of Being for November. That request is cancelled, and now I'm trying to get Testament of Youth through ILL - evidently no copies available locally.
24Simone2
I hadn't even heard of both of them! I am excited to join both GRs, trying to get both books in time.
25Deern
Paradise of the Blind is ordered and should be here next week.
27Rob.Larson
I just ordered Paradise of the Blind and I didn't even know it was nominated and chosen! Can't wait to get it now!
