We're sliding into the next season. Are we bracing for another arctic winter? The wooly worms I've seen have been reasonably colored - a bit of black on the ends and plenty of brown in the middle. Are there other folkways predicting the weather? Have you made any adjustments since last winter? I've been slowly but steadily adding more insulation. My current project is the crawlspace walls. And I picked up a kerosene heater at a yard sale.

I spent last week on my ridgetop, fully expecting a week of beautiful sunshine and blue skies. My daughters both have birthdays in the week and I can verify we've had that for the past 33 years. HA! What, 6 inches or so of rain? I'm guessing by adding the amounts collected in a 5 gallon bucket daily. At the library, I saw the contractor who replaced my roof two years ago and gave him a great big hug.

Has it rained any this past week?

I put in new apple trees and lots of garden stuff, using up all the water left in my rain barrels and I haven't been there for nearly two weeks.

Hoping my tomato plants are still alive.
