The December edition of Naval History Magazine contained an obituary for Colonel Joseph H. Alexander.

Joseph Alexander was a prolific author of books on the Pacific theatre in World War II, including Utmost Savagery: The Three Days of Tarawa and Storm Landings: Epic Amphibious Battles in the Central Pacific.

According to the article, Colonel Alexander passed away on September 28, 2014. He had a 29 year career in the Marine Corps as an assault amphibian officer and served two combat tours in Vietnam.
