Arrgh! I hated Mandlebaum's translation of the Aeneid. It was the assigned translation while we read the original in my Latin class. How muddily the wordy English compares to the Latin. I really feel that this translation gives no sense of the original language and hardly qualifies as verse itself. I've heard that Fagles' translation is much better.
