I am reading The Brothers Karamazov which alternates between philosophical/religious discussions that I don't understand and caroming discussions/confessions amongst the Karamazovs. And hopefully by the time I finish this book I will at least be able to spell the family name.

Definitely planning to finish Moby Dick this month, as I've been reading it as my work book for months. Upgrading it to my bedside table so I can finally read more than a page or two at a time.

Just started Cider with Rosie. Next will be Arcanum 17 and King Solomon's Mines, both of which I don't really look forward to!

Yesterday I finished both Blood and Guts in High School - intriguing and in-your-face, and The Maltese Falcon - fun. Today I start Invisible Cities.
7jfetting
I'm reading The Decay of the Angel, the last book in the Sea of Fertility series.
8Deern
Read and enjoyed Sarah Waters' Tipping the Velvet and am now having a hard time with Henry James' The Wings of the Dove.
9paruline
Finished the very entertaining Cakes and ale and am about to start Invisible man.

Reading Queer by William S. Burroughs for my personal challenge. My personal challenge was to read a book by many of the writers with 3+ books on the list by whom I had read nothing so far. The problem turns out to be that this means reading a lot of books by writers whose styles or agendas don't appeal to me much. Not uninteresting, mind you, but not terribly enjoyable.
Fortunately I've got Mrs. Dalloway going on audio and that is completely wonderful.

>10 annamorphic: We are reading Virginia Woolf this month in the Monthly Author Reads group. Feel free to join in the discussion. I know some people are reading Mrs. Dalloway this month. The thread is here.

All 3 of my current books are by authors with exactly 5 books on the list (part of my personal challenge) and are all new authors for me.
On Paper - Middlemarch by George Eliot, which has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now and I've run out of excuses.
On Kindle - If on a Winter's Night a Traveller by Italo Calvino, which is shaping up to be just my kind of book.
On Audio - Germinal by Emile Zola, which I think is really good, but the narration is irritating me to distraction at times.

>12 JonnySaunders: Germinal is VERY good. Perhaps switching to paper or kindle (just make sure the translation is post-1950s so you get an uncensored edition) will make it even better.

Yesterday I started Infinite Jest. My husband and I are reading it together, hopefully over the course of 70 days.

OMG I am currently reading 11! books and I want to finish them before the end of the month! This is going to be one serious reading push...

Ursula I've just finished this book and I can highly recommend the reading group thread that we used. Even though we've nearly all finished the comments and discussion was really good and valuable I think to anyone who wants to read through them. They are all split into the weekly reads and it's a strict no spoilers group.

I just finished The Story of O. Don't know what's next because I have to read a few non-list books now.

You're absolutely right, I'm now officially hooked on this book.
Now I can't figure out whether I've just got used to the narration, or whether it actually quite good or just the story is so good enough to make me forget the narration.

I'm about 1/3 of the way into I, Robot.
And since reading The Story of O last month wasn't bad enough, I checked out a de Sade book with abridged versions of The 120 Days of Sodom and Justine. I normally stay away from abridged books, but I'm making an exception here.

In my attempt to get to The Last Chronicle of Barset, which is on the list, I am now listening to Barchester Towers which is not. But to my surprise I like Trollope so much that I do not mind. The Warden was lovely. I'm not sure though that I will do the three intervening books, which seem to be more about other Barchester inhabitants and less about the main characters. After this one I may go straight to the Last Chronicle.

Ho ho, you're a real sucker for punishment, aren't you! A real masochist, it looks like (sorry, couldn't resist. It's Friday afternoon. that's the best excuse I could come up with)

I've been dreading the mere thought of reading The 120 Days of Sodom. I was told by someone that it was hilarious but I have my doubts...
I'm no prude but although I don't think The Story of O will cause me too many problems I think the Marquis de Sade will be a different kettle of fish.

>22 Nickelini: haha - it does seem to say something about me! I had the fleeting thought that after finishing de Sade I'd be done with the icky books, but then remembered there's Crash, The Wild Boys, and more!
>23 M1nks: Oh yeah, 120 Days is supposed to be a satire I guess. I still haven't had the nerve to start it. Satire or not I think it will be a lot worse than The Story of O because O at least was sort of willing. And an adult.

I am still reading Quo Vadis, hope to finish up soon, before the end of the month. I also finished The Cathedral: A Novel St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics by Oles Honchar and Blindness by Henry Green.
27Deern
Made it through The Wings of the Dove in the end, and also read Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, A Handful of Dust by Evely Waugh and The History of Love by Nicole Krauss. Didn't love any of my February reads, but none was terrible either.
I carefully started now on the next GR here, The Dictionary of the Khazars, but it's way too early to know if I like it or not.
Oh, and I never got even through the first book of the "120 Days" (I'm in the office so better not write it out). So far no-one has died, but I felt sick all the time. I want to take it up again one day because I'm a completist, but can take it only in very small doses.

Finished Quo Vadis.
>27 Deern:, I started The Wings of the Dove in the past but did not finish, I will have to finish it one of these days. Read Fingersmith recently, it was okay, but a little too long. I loved The History of Love when I read it. Really hope to read The Dictionary of the Khazars in March.

I'm reading The Elementary Particles for my personal challenge and finding it severely second-rate. Another author where I think "Oh spare me! Two more books by this one?"
I hope to finish it quickly so I can join the March group read.

I have finished The Brothers Karamazov, easily one of the best book I will read this year. Yes, even with the boring religious/philosophical debates.
