I've changed a low-level function that returns covers for works so that it's sensitive to the language site you're on (e.g., LibraryThing.de, LibraryThing.fr, etc.). This will have trickling effects throughout the site.
Here's how it look for recommendations:

(As you can see, we're still having problems with truncating non-Latin titles.)
At root it's now attempting to calculate the best ISBN for a work both generally and by language. It's by no means infallible. But it's the best we can do with the data we have.
Not all covers have changed and, for now, I'm not sure if I'm going to make them change. In particular, it's not choosing a language version of the main work cover.

I catalogue books in German though I'm always on the English-language site; still, I appreciate any improvement in language-specific editions. A tangential issue of concern to me, then, is having those non-English covers available to me when I select the Change Your Cover function for a specific work I own.
Clarifying question: is this change primarily a function of sorting / filtering covers already saved on LT, or will it (also) increase the number of non-English covers pulled into LT?

Yeah, it's just a matter of sorting/filtering. No new covers were added.
