I don't know if anyone ever looks at the group page anymore - maybe this will never be seen - but this AV Club column got me thinking, and I think other people could enjoy it too. The column takes questions from readers and has various staff members answer - this time the question is:
If when we die there is an afterlife, but that afterlife must be spent entirely within a fictional universe (film, television, book, video game world, etc.), where would you choose to spend eternity?
Of course my immediate reaction was Hogwarts. Then I thought of the Whoniverse. By the time I had finished reading through all the choices made in the article I decided my perfect Heaven would be the OASIS from Ready Player One, where I'd have the opportunity to visit any of my choices and many of the choices made in the article. Maybe it's cheating, but it's a fictional universe and I think it'd be a great after life.

How about everyone else?

I'm going to Pern.  It has its ups and downs, but it also has dragons!

Ooh, do I have to pick just one?!

Like bib, I immediately thought Hogwarts, and it would definitely be amazing. Then I thought the chateau where Belle and the Beast live (in the Disney cartoon version), so I could spend eternity in that library! But I think I'd have to settle on Middle Earth, probably in The Shire.

Pern. Definitely Pern. As I'm afraid of heights, I probably won't make it as a dragonrider, but I'm sure I can Impress a fire lizard. Or two.

The Whoniverse would be awesome, but I would want to be the Doctor or at least traveling with him.

My first thought was Narnia, though OASIS is tempting so I could visit other worlds, too!

Rivendell. Sure seems idyllic.

Jasper Fforde's BookWorld, for the same reason as you OASIS fans. I haven't read that book yet. I might even rewrite a few endings I didn't like...

>7 jnwelch: If I chose that universe, I'd end up in Gondor, no matter my preference!

Certainly wouldn't be Westeros!
