The TV show will get to the end first

So, there's this news:
http://www.tor.com/blogs/2015/03/game-of-thrones-will-spoil-song-of-ice-and-fire...

How does everyone here feel about the show finishing the story before the books do? This article ends with a lot of shrugs in the comments, but here on LT where the community is more book-centric I'm curious whether the reaction will be more heated.

I don't follow the show, so my primary risk is with encountering spoilers as people who do watch it talk or post about it. If there's a gap of several years between the show ending and the final book being published, the risk increases proportionally.

So the season finale was last night. I've been a bit frustrated with the producers wandering away from the canon so much during season 5, but they seemed to have pulled back to the book in the final episode. It seems they left enough of Dance with Dragons out that they should be off to a good start next season whether or not G.R.R.M. coughs up another book. So this leaves all sorts of interesting questions.

*SPOILERS*

Since Varys has ended up in Meereen when's he going to get back to King's Landing to ruin a few people's day? In the book Myrcella lost an ear and her looks, but if she's poisoned on the show will she live? Does Bronn still have antidote? or did his little hot sand snake poison him too with that bite to the ear? Is Bronn going to bump off his in-laws? If Myrcella croaks does this mean it will be Tristane who goes to Meereen to free the two trapped dragons? Is the grey girl on the dying horse going to be Sansa? Is Jaime going to go back to fighting in the Riverlands and threaten to launch Edmure's baby over the ramparts? Where the heck are the Iron Born? Dany needs a fleet if she's ever to start that invasion. Those Dothraki just aren't going to swim to Westeros. Is Jon going to Warg and will the red woman save him? Will Lady Stoneheart ever show up and finish off the Freys? Will the Hound become the grave digger or did Brienne truly finish him?

10 months is just too long to wait to find out unless the Winds of Winter comes out beforehand and then who knows what the producers will do with it.

With all the Star Wars mayhem in the air, I got to comparing what this would be like for that series. Imagine three novels appearing in bookstores this week, detailing the action of the next three Star Wars movies? Yeah, like that.

In Canada I tend to follow the national broadcaster news online (CBC.CA). Every single episode of Game of Thrones is literally getting headline mention in the entertainment section, often with a picture and a hinting title. Every single week. Talk about annoying when you're trying to avoid it!

Usually I'm mad because the show has strayed so far from the books, but the Battle of the Bastards was pretty darn good. Yeah Sansa!

>5 varielle: It was awesome! (But I wished she'd been more forthcoming with Jon and Sir Davos. Might have saved a few thousand lives.)

I do my best (like I did with LotR) to think of the show as it's own entity. Especially now that there is no direct source for the dialog, which has been painfully evident for much of this season.

10 months is a long time to wait for next season. I'm still reeling from last night.

>7 varielle: Be prepared. Season 7 is only 7 episodes long...
