Jacques Derrida's 13,800 volume personal library is headed to Princeton. http://www.princeton.edu/main/news/archive/S42/80/05G54/index.xml

>1 benjclark: Oooh, yeah, I saw this. I'm hoping they catalog it quickly so we can add it :-)

I'd help.

This Derrida bibliography might be useful, though it is not 100% up to date. It was compiled by my friend Eddie Yeghiayan when he was Special Collections Librarian at UC Irvine.

Though fascinating, link looks to be a bibliography of Derrida's works, not books he owned.

As a bibliophile, I was bothered to see how Derrida (apparently) kept his books. Many are leaning at angles guaranteed to ruin the book over time. I had to learn by sad experience that hardback books that aren't stored upright (or horizontally) suffer irreversible damage; they will never lose their "lean". And paperbacks get permanent creases in their covers.
What do you suppose we can infer about Mr. Derrida from how he kept his books?

This article from April is circulating this week on the bookternet. Not sure why it's just now hitting, but there's a little more info here than in the first link.

In the meantime, does anyone know
how you access the "library catalog"
of the authors who already are
in a "Legacy Library"? Iʻm getting
a ʻNothing Found" message on the
last 5 or 6 Iʻve tried (which include
Joyce and Yeats). Iʻve been told
how to get around this message,
but Iʻve forgotten.
