I kind of feel bad selling this unreadable set for $650. It was just released at $270 for the set. It's difficult deciding. As an example I paid $100 over retail for an unopened DLE of the 5 volume Count of Monte Cristo, only to find out that EP had only printed the first 300, with the next 500 printed this year. I guess this is market dynamics in motion.

It was always going to get a reprint. EP said as much. Anyone who paid $650 was taking that risk. Selling it for $650 as of now would probably be bad form. Paying much more than RRP for any EP book is nuts unless you REALLY want it.

I was actually really happy to see this as I have had my eye out for a used copy of all 3 for awhile now, but never saw any decent prices. I'm a huge Tolkien fan and just finished reading The History of Middle-Earth series that EP published a few months ago. Now I just need to find a copy of The Children of Hurin.

I am and have been a follower of Tolkien's books and just got done purchasing all of the Harper Collins Deluxe Slipcase Editions earlier this year. I had to put a hold on reading my next title which is Unfinished Tales because I recently returned to school to finish my bachelor degree. Taking two classes and working full time and family doesn't give me much time to read. I would love to buy the EP Tolkien titles too just to have a different version even though I have all of them already.

The only Tolkien book from Easton Press I'm missing is Letters from Father Christmas. Each Christmas I hope that Easton Press would reprint it, but it never happens.

It'll happen sometime. A few years back, EP said they would "probably" reprint it again. They had also said they would reprint the LT/UT set depending on demand (and took about a decade). I'm waiting for this one too, as it is the only one I don't have. I'm not paying over the odds for an EP book, though.
It is a pity that they don't use number-lines or statements of reprinting, as it would make EP properly collectable.

Out of curiosity, did any of you Tolkien collectors also purchase the Tolkien Beowulf that EP recently published? I just can't bring myself to pay for it when I already have it from the 100 Greatest.

Yep, I have it. It is nice enough. Cover design is fussier than it needs to be. I'm pretty sure I posted a thread on it in the EP group. Remember that Tolkien's Beowulf translation/adaptation is not the same as the translation in the 100 Greatest (which I have not read).
