Can anyone recommend either a free OR not too prohibitively expensive software program for a Windows 7 or 8 or even 10 laptop that will catalog in detail my 5,000 plus title collection?
For years I`ve used BookList 5 used to be available from Michael Cole of The Clique in York, UK which lets me input Author, Title, Publisher place/date/printer, Physical Description covers, format, condition, contents... finishing with a "Keynotes" portion identifying what makes the book stand out in production quality, bibliographic or literary significance... with a further section including ISBN for dealers uploading lists to Amazon & other sale sites : I have found BookList 5 to do all I need BUT it will only function up to Windows 7 & 8, & can`t now be amended to cope with Windows 10.
After a significant investment of time I`ve so far catalogued over 3,300 of my titles, so I`d also be interested in advice as to the extent IF at all any recommended program would allow me to some-how transfer the current catalog into the new program system re-keying all the info from scratch would be an almost unacceptable option.
I`m aware that LibraryThing offers a cataloging facility to members, but I need a separate, stand alone program such as would be employed by either a librarian or a book seller.
In the hope that someone can offer relevant advice, best wishes - John.

Might check Book Collector, but not sure if it would meet all your needs.

Does Windows 10 include some facility for running virtual machines? If so, just install Win7 inside it and Booklist 5 will trudge on blissfully unaware of the world outside...
(Even if Win10 doesn't support VMs right out of the box, installing VMware and then Win7 should be pretty trivial.)

you've probably already tried it, but if not you should attempt to launch the software in compatibility mode for windows 7 or 8

>4 odderi: and >5 dopin: seem like the best solutions to try. Definitely try compat. mode for Win8... Win10 is not all that different.

There is a relatively inexpensive product called Readerware. I don't know much about it. But you can download a free trial version to see if it meets your needs.

Thanks for the advice - I`ll investigate the suggested options as far as my technically challenged abilities will allow - John at ocfinebooks.

I`ve recently found a useful summary of Bookseller, Library & Collectors Book Inventory Programs at http://www.whiteunicornbooks.com/home/inventoryprograms.html - At the moment I`m inclined to give a first trial to the free bookseller program from ABE called HomeBase available in two options = 2.3 and 3.0 which provisionally promises to do all I need, including accepting the data from my current program. I`ll aim to report back as & when regarding the extent of success. Thanks again - John @ ocfinebooks.
