Yesterday the Dutch writer Joost Zwagerman committed suicide at the age of 51. In Holland we are quite shocked by this sad, sad news. It was known that he had been depressive but things seemed better and besides, he was a fervent opponent of committing suicide.

Anyhow, in our list there is one novel by Zwagerman, called Gimmick! about the Amsterdam nightlife in the 80s. Maybe this is the moment to read it for those who haven't yet.

Oh my goodness, what is it with Dutch writers? Wasn't there a well-known poet who killed himself in July, Rogi Weig? The same story, long history of depression, also just in his early 50s. Odd.

>2 annamorphic: >3 ursula: Yes they were good friends. Zwagerman wrote a requiem for Rori Wieg. Quite sad story.
