Favorite character introduction?

My favorite is the character introduction of Strider in LOTR. It's even better in the movie. At the inn of the prancing pony, Frodo and Sam ask the Butterbur who the guy in the corner was, and Butterbur goes, "he's one of them rangers.....But 'round here, he's known as Strider". Then the camera zooms in on Vggo Mortensen's eyes - perfect interplay of light and smoke.

The character intro to Sir Walter Elliot in Jane Austen's Persuasion is the best. He is shown to his most absurd.

HA! I nearly put that too, but then I remembered Strider in the movie.
