We've listed our hearts' desires and our wands. Now share what shape your patronus would be!

I never had a dog until I adopted one three years ago from the local humane society. He is a Scottie and I think my patronus would look just like him. Those dementors wouldn't stand a chance!

Sep 9, 2007, 9:21 pm

Oh, I dither a lot about this one! All in all, I think mine would be a raccoon. I joked on a Green Dragon thread on this topic that I'd have a duck-billed platypus, just to be different, but I think a raccoon suits me better.

3suge
Sep 9, 2007, 9:38 pm

Mmm think a dog would suit me also! I love dogs! I always thought that mine would be a dog but I also love sharks!! They're so fascinating!! I think I would be a white tip reef shark they are my favorite!

isn't she (I can't make out any claspers) gorgeous?!

4LettaAvanell
Sep 9, 2007, 9:53 pm

I think my patronus would probably look like my dog too. He's a lhasa apso-terrier mix and right now his fur is getting kinda long and he looks like a teddy bear.
no pictures. sorry.

5suge
Sep 9, 2007, 10:08 pm

omg mine is a yorki lhasa mix! He looks like a mop.

6dancerinthedark
Sep 9, 2007, 10:09 pm

I'm in the life sciences, and I have a fascination for the photophysics of avian vision, so mine would be either a raven or a dove.

7gpwts
Sep 9, 2007, 10:12 pm

I think mine would be a monkey because I'm usually doing something completely crazy, and I have this weird love for forest and climbing trees

8LettaAvanell

suge, my dog looks like a mop sometimes too! we usually keep his fur pretty short though.

#3 suge:
YIKES! She's rather, um ... not scary. ;)

I think I've already posted somewhere that mine would be a cat. And okay, so I love them, but I undertsand them so well! Anyhow, 'cat' was also my first word, I kid you not. :)

OMG. I was looking for a photo 'cause I was a tad jealous of our photo posters in this thread, and I came across ... cat brains! Ekkk!

10suge
Sep 9, 2007, 10:32 pm

Yeah I'm the same way, lett. We usually keep Cocoa's hair short in the summer because of the heat, but now that the cold weather is coming again (*tear*) I'm letting his hair grow again.

11suge
Sep 9, 2007, 10:34 pm

k, a dememtor would have to think twice seeing that coming at em! Oh and thanks for not posting the cat brains.... somehow I'm just not curious about it.

Okay, because posting pics is much more fun than, yanno, writing my paper, here's my raccoon:

And suge, I agree that your shark patronus would make the dementors duck and cover!

Edited: Sep 9, 2007, 10:38 pm

#11 suge:
LOL. I didn't want to see the cat brains, either, trust me! I saw a tiny photo of it, thought 'is that coat patterns' 'cause two of my cats have special prints, you know - classic tabbies!

15suge

A dancing monkey perchance? ;)

31Marensr
Sep 10, 2007, 11:51 am

Mine would probably be an ocelot or a red fox. Something smart and shy. If I look at the other threads and figure out the picture posting I'll send pictures.

36jugglingpaynes
Sep 10, 2007, 12:17 pm

Are we picking something with our characteristics? Because I sound just like a Tasmanian devil before that first cup of coffee in the morning.
Or else I would be a cat. Hopefully something along the lines of our tabby huntress, Dusty, and not like our black boneless cat, Merlin.

37Marensr
Sep 10, 2007, 12:21 pm

That's it but it is giant. I had a fox too so I'll try that one for practice

38Marensr
Sep 10, 2007, 12:24 pm

Yeah! At least one worked and wasn't giant. Fox it is.

Juggling, it is an interesting question. Especially since the Patronus charm stems from the latin for Father and Harry's is clearly tied to his father's form as an animagus. Is the animal more tied to oneself or one's father?

In the books the other ones seem to be tied to the characters themselves Ron's is a dog, Hermione's is an otter, Luna's is a Hare etc.

39Kerian
Sep 10, 2007, 12:26 pm

Look what I found! It's not cat brains, thank goodness, but what I was looking for last night. Now you can see the different tabby prints! Two of my cats, Aloof and Aloft, are classic tabbies.

40Marensr
Sep 10, 2007, 12:32 pm

Oh love the kitties K, I have a tortoishell girl kitty and two black and white boys- Jellicle cats as it were.

41jugglingpaynes
Edited: Sep 10, 2007, 12:34 pm

#38 - If it's tied to the father, I'm definitely Taz.

As for the other characters, I can see Ron being a dog, they usually represent faithfulness, but Hermione's otter? Otters are so playful, I don't understand that. And why a hare for Luna?

42foggidawn
Edited: Sep 10, 2007, 12:35 pm

If mine was tied to my dad:

But I think that's actually what his patronus would be. I think that the idea of using the root "patron" is more the idea of a protector, than a link to one's actual father -- Harry's referenced his actual father because of his need for that connection in his life. At least, that's my guess.

Edited to find a smaller bear -- I'm having a lot of fun with life-sized animals today, apparently

43Kerian
Edited: Sep 10, 2007, 12:36 pm

Troscious, foggi! That is a really big bear! :)

Edited: You've replaced it I see.

44elbakerone
Sep 10, 2007, 1:07 pm

Even if it's tied to one's father I think I'd still be a monkey because my dad's pretty silly and fun too. He gave me the nickname of monkey when I was really little and it spawned a stuffed monkey collection that's been growing ever sense.

45Kerian
Sep 10, 2007, 1:10 pm

46suge

Watch out Dementors! (plus very convenient for speaking patronuses!):

47Marensr
Sep 10, 2007, 2:15 pm

42 Foggi, good catch I guess there are patron references - protectors like patron saints but I think the etymology still gos back to father. - It makes sense that Harry's would tie to his father.

41 Juggling- But otters are very smart like Hermione, I kind of liked Luna's hare- and hares are associated with the moon and madness if you believe Alice in Wonderland so it seemed like an excellent fit for Luna.

Do you think James ever turned into a stag in front of baby Harry? Maybe that is where he got his attachment to stags. We can assume he maybe got some of his flying talent from having a broom at age 1. That can't be all hereditary!

thanks. i think i orignally wanted it to be a bengal tiger, and be an animagus as a falcon, but looking at it being a metamorphmagus i nixed the animagus idea and thought "since i always used to dream of flying, why not have the falcon as my patronus?" XD

97pollysmith
Sep 18, 2007, 8:12 am

I wonder if we can choose our patronus or if it is a part of our being that simply appears when needed

98suge
Sep 18, 2007, 8:17 am

I think that it is a part of our nature and personality that shapes our patronus, but I also believe that in extreme cases (like with Tonks) something causes our patronus to change.

99Kerian
Sep 18, 2007, 7:36 pm

If my patronus changed, I'd like to think it would be a ground creature.

100ChelseaB-ley
Sep 18, 2007, 11:58 pm

Ohh! Where did you take the test? :)

102LadyN
Sep 19, 2007, 12:33 pm

I just did one too - I found it by putting "What's your patronus" in the google search engine.

Anyway, it told me mine would be a Ram, but I like to think mine would be a german shepherd dog. I do like the penguin though! I'd love a penguin just to waddle around my flat and watch telly with me. He could live in the bath....

103reenathebookworm

105MEM82
Sep 19, 2007, 1:51 pm

106Kerian
Sep 19, 2007, 2:12 pm

I was a little afraid taking the first test. After that one, though, I figured it couldn't be that bad. :)

Oh, and I had to change a question sort of from the first test I took. It asked a question about my father. Doesn't seem to be a good question for people who know little about their fathers. I changed it to mother instead.

Oct 24, 2007, 11:54 am

LOL.

My thing is when one of my sisters hands me their essay to proof-read it, I immediately focus on their spelling and grammar. They tell me that they want to only know about the rest of the paper, and not those things! They seem to think they need to 'stupid down' their papers at the beginning of the smester, so their essays will improve through the semester without getting poor grades they think they would get if they did this another way. Go figure!

125littlegeek
Oct 24, 2007, 11:57 am

#124 I never thought of that when I was in school. But wouldn't their poorer grades in the beginning throw off their grade?

126Kerian
Oct 24, 2007, 12:04 pm

#125 littlegeek:
I never once considered it! Hmm, I'm unsure. All I know is that they think if their papers are poor quality to begin with, their instructors won't grade them as harshly, and they will compliment them on the improvement of their papers as they begin to write how they would normally write. Sounds crazy to me! I would never do that. (Btw, I love writing essays, so they say that makes me crazy anyways. ;)

And lg, I've met plenty of pompous asses and you are no pompous ass. You were just making a clarification. I probably would have said the same thing if I had noticed. ;o)

Then again, you could be like me -- start out with high marks, proceed on to stress about high marks, and end up really not caring any more. Boy, do I have a bad case of Senioritis!

What would happen if someone's patronus was a Dementor?
I think that my patronus would be a Dementor because I have a dark side. Or it would be a python like Nagini (Vodemort's snake)

156MrsGrinch
Jan 15, 2008, 10:59 am

mine might be a polar bear i dont know why i just think it would be good for me

157pollysmith
Jan 15, 2008, 1:28 pm

155- I don't think a dementor could be a patronus because patronus come from happy thoughts

158foggidawn
Jan 15, 2008, 1:50 pm

#157 -- I agree. Also, as far as we've seen, a patronus is always an animal shape, and dementors aren't animals, they're another type of magical creature. So, that would be like saying your patronus would be a house-elf, or a centaur.

#155 -- I do think your patronus could be a snake, though.

I think my patronus would be an elephant. When I was a kid I always had some type of stuffed elephant with me. I had those instead of blankies.

I just got a WebKins elephant for my birthday. I'm not supposed to use it until tomorrw (June 1st), that way all the neat stuff goes into effect. I'm actually going to bring it to school with me so my kids can do that as a free activity choice. Haven't thought up a name yet though.

My Patronus would prolly be a giraffe.
My friends all joke and compare me to a giraffe because I'm so tall, but I'm rather clumsy, but I argue that I'm elegantly clumsy because giraffes have always struck me as elegant.

(Sorry, I'm unable to supply a picture for your benefit. We all know what a giraffe looks like though right?)

Anyhow, that's my patronus.

Oh snap!
Thank you for the pic miss Chelsea!

My study hall teacher was a giraffe freak too...she even had a tattoo on her calf of one. I"m not sure I would go that far in my love and similarities but she was really weird.

That is so cool though...I wish my gramma collected giraffes!!

There is such a think as obsession, and those people who love giraffes are living examples!!!

I do love the picture of the warthog...I think I'll adopt one now. (:

I just took 2 quizzes and they both said wolf, which does fit my personality, I really can't choose an animal on my own, I like so many of them! uugghh... I was thinking possibly something that swims since I love the water, but maybe I'll just stick with the wolf....still undecided
