Surely the idea of fat acceptance is endemic of a society not living up to its obligation to give all people a healthy and long life? It also implies that fat people are 'hated' or in some way not accepted by society as a whole.
Everyone knows the percentages of children now obese, everyone knows shortened life expectancy overwieght people have to look forward to, everyone knows about the diabetes and heart disease and whatever that people run a higher risk of getting, so why would you want to accept this?
And I'm not saying that it is easy to be thin, nor am I asking for everyone to be some megafit triathlete, but I am saying acceptance is tantamount to giving up, it is like saying 'so what, I dont care'.
And that is fine. Its amazingly selfish on at least two levels, but its fine. But before you do accept, remember this; the reason that there is a social pressure to be thin, the reason you might feel that you need a fat acceptance group, it is not to do with looks, or with any other superficial reason, or to do with the pressure an obese population put on a health care infrastructure, but because people die young.
And dying young when you have a family really is horrible, not just on you, but them. Imagine having an extra few years with your parents, or your siblings.
And if you think I am being harsh, I most certainly am not, I'm being honest. So you can accept all you want, you can do what you like, but it really is such a narrow minded view point, a very stupid idea.

This is a dormant post, but for the record, the original poster seems to know nothing about the FA movement aside from its name.

Great post. I weigh over 600 pounds. Just try and call me lazy. Ha! I worked full time for years and got myself to and from work. YOU try and carry 400 extra pounds around and do that THEN you can call me lazy. I journal my food every day. I see a nutritionist every week. I've been doing this for over two years. You know how much I've lost? 70 pounds. That's it.
You have ANY idea how sick and tired I am of writing my food down every day? Of weighing in and seeing the same weight week after week after week?
If I restrict my food too much, I binge. If I don't restrict it enough, I don't lose any weight. I'm in this trap and I've battled it for years.
Yeah, right. I'm lazy alright. *snorts*
