I'm off travelling for a couple of weeks with uncertain internet access (Dad's 80th birthday) so we'll have an extended nomination period for our next Group Reads. As usual please nominate up to two books, and second as many books as you like. I'll be back to set up the poll around 15th November.

I'll second Harriet Hume and The Romantics, as I haven't read those yet.

I've been meaning to reread The Stone Diaries so I will second that and I will again nominate All Quiet on the Western Front.

My TBR shelf is full of painfully difficult books or else ones that look too slight for a group read. I'll nominate two from there that seem to fit the bill for a group read, though: The Bridge on the Drina (Nobel Prize winner) and I'm Not Stiller. And I second Tono-bungay because how can I not?

I'll third The Bridge on the Drina! I just picked it up in a charity shop raid.

Seconding I'm not Stiller. It has been sitting on my shelf forever.

Just moving this to the top of the list in case anybody has more nominations. It sunk out of sight beneath all our other threads!

I'd like to nominate The Quest for Christa T and The First Garden

It's probably too late now, but you missed Harriet Hume on the poll.

Oops. Apologies to you and japaul22 for that omission. Probably not the best plan to set the poll up after 30 hours of sleepless travel! If we have a run-off poll I'll add it in there. Otherwise remind me to include it in the next poll we do.

>16 puckers: no problem, honestly I hadn't even noticed! Putting it in the next poll is a good solution.

Thanks for doing this every month!

The poll has now closed with two books on eight votes each: The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andric, and I'm not Stiller by Max Frisch. These will be our Group Reads for December and January respectively. I'll set up threads for each at the start of each month - enjoy!

>20 arukiyomi: That was back in the October/November poll. It came in equal 5th in the poll. One of my favourite list books.

My library doesn't seem to have any copies of The Bridge on the Drina although there is a listing in the catalogue. So I guess I will pass on this one and read some other 1001 book.

I will try to remember to nominate Feast of the Goat as well as The First Garden next time -- two books I definitely want to read next year....

thanks puckers... looks like we'll get it done in the next year... it already has two votes at least!
