Another DLE - this one for scifi/fantasy buffs.

>1 jroger1: seems like an intelligent choice for a DLE. You can pick this up with all the art HB for $30 on Amazon. The reviews are excellent. Seems targeted to those who are willing to pay big bucks for Rackham Alice or Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Interesting! I do wish that they would have a more detailed description of their books. Does anyone know what they mean by "each page hand mounted?"
Does anyone have the Dover (Calla Edition) of this?

I have the Calla edition, which is superb. The illustrations are printed directly onto the page, rather than tipped-in but still gorgeous. Paper is heavy(ish) stock. But if any book deserves a DLE, this would be it. The first edition is a genuine collector's item that can go anywhere from $500 - $3000, depending on the condition.

I would point out that this is definitely NOT science fiction. It's pure fantasy in the pre-Tolkien sense of the word. If anything, Timlin was probably anti-science, or at least industrialism. The ship in the title is literally a sailing ship.

Great choice! I'm really excited about this! The lowest price I have found for an original from 1923 is over $1000, and that is not for one in good condition. Definitely, a must order. It will sell out, although not necessarily "quickly". As noted, it's more fantasy than science fiction, but it has early science fiction elements. Besides, many of today's "science fiction" are fantasy anyway!!

3: The illustrations are hand mounted/hand-tipped. That's how many high-quality books from the Golden Age were produced.

edit: EP has to stop producing such great books. My wallet can ill afford more such purchases :/

For those that are on budget as pointed out >5 JustinTChan: the Calla edition is a great alternative which is also a repro of the 1923 edition. Illustrations are not tipped-in but printed on high quality paper. Both text and illustrations are on one side. Can't wait to read this with my godson. He loves stories with a lot of illustrations lol

I agree - The Dover (Calla) edition is a lovely reproduction of the original. Nicely bound.

8: Thanks for the info! I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison with the EP DLE.
