I just finished Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett. It was a beautiful book I just received a book from Library Thing to read called The Good Death by Ann Neumann. I am also reading The Bookman's Tale by Charlie Lovett I will review both when finished

When I read Bel Canto by Patchett back in, oh 2007 I think, it felt like a major discovery for me. Like nothing I had at that time ever read before.

>2 dchaikin: Truth and Beauty was about Ann's friendship with her friend Lucy. They met in college, roomed together in grad school. Lucy had cancer as a child and was missing most of her jaw from chemo. The book goes through their closeness and probably codependent friendship, they are both writers. Very intimate writing. It was a 4 star for me. I just finished Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett also. It was excellent, very different from other books, I couldn't put it down, the ending felt undone to me. A woman who ran away from her life and ends up as a cook in a Catholic home for unwed mothers. Set in the late 60s early 70s. I give it 4 stars also. Her writing flows very well, I was completely in the setting of the book, transported to Habit, KY where it was set . Rose ran away from her life. The author could have given more insight into her mind too.

The Bookman's Tale I loved this book for the knowledge it gave me about rare books, how they are preserved, acquired etc. I give it 4 stars. Peter is grieving for his wife, and the book flips from present to the late 1700s to the years where Peter meets his future wife and their courtship. I did have to review previous chapters occasionally just to keep the time frames in order.

>4 crazeedi73: I didn't know Truth and Beauty was a memoir. (Or did I know at one time and have since forgetten?). Anyway I'm very interested. I think I would like to try The Patron Saint of Liars too.
>6 crazeedi73: the title The Bookman's Tale somehow discourages me, although I'm interested in learning about rare books.
