LT Author Locality Index

I've been thinking that it would be useful to have an index of where other authors are, so that we maybe have a chance of finding authors that are local to us. Not so much for the readers, although they may be interested too, but mostly so that authors can find author friends in their area and maybe arrange to do group promotions/events (which from what I've heard are generally more effective than one author trying to do it alone).

So, if you are an author and are willing to be part of such an index, please post to this thread telling us not exactly where you live, but rather the largest population center(s) you consider to be "local" to you ie, that you can reach to do promotional events and other activities without too much difficulty.

For example, I live in the village (it's not even a town!) of Jamestown, OH. But my entry, (shown below) lists Columbus and Cincinnati (Jamestown is right smack in the middle between them) as my "local" cities.

Also, please include a brief list of what genres you write in, because that could be important information for people trying to find participants in promotional events and etc.

Do I call you L? Thanks so much for this! Yes, I would LOVE to be part of a writing community! I live in LA, specifically, the Valley, but Greater LA would be just fine. I am a member of GLAWS-- Greater Los Angeles Writers Society -- but it is a paid membership, and what I would like to find is a more like a coffee klatch....where we can sit and talk and pass around our work and support each other. I will post as well to the other threads you mentioned. I am new; I have already reviewed two books for LT and posted them, but would like very much to be more involved.

I'm equidistant from Boston, MA and Providence, RI (about a 70-mile trip, but do-able for promotions, etc).

I write non-fiction about history and popular culture.

I've got most everyone added but the listings still needs some work. I will clean them up tomorrow -- I seem to have run out of time today! :(

This sounds like a great idea. The nearest large area to me is Little Rock Arkansas. I belong to local poetry groups but none that cover other genres. I write memoir, poetry and some short stories.

The closest community would have to be Port Alberni, but as even that is a 2.5 hour boat ride away, anywhere on Vancouver Island could be considered my 'local'.
