The Book Thing in Baltimore suffered a serious fire recently.

They're accepting volunteer help to clean up and funds to rebuild.

I just saw that there will be a musical festival fundraiser during Memorial Day weekend:

Kudos to all who are able to attend! (Sadly, not me. I feel the urge to donate again.)

Book Thing posted this message on their Facebook page:

"Help The Book Thing give away free books while we're waiting to reopen. If you restock Little Library boxes, work with Baltimore jail libraries, or have access to any services for giving away books in the community, let us know.

Contact us at bookthing.org to arrange picking up boxes of books to distribute at your venue. We regret that our ability to handle custom requests is limited, but appreciate your help while we rebuild."

>3 WildMaggie: Thank, Maggie. I'll let Little Free Library stewards know.

>3 WildMaggie: Maggie, that information was wrong. A fellow Little free Library steward just now called The Book Thing of Baltimore. Then she posted this on our stewards Facebook page after she called them.

"The information I was given is the same is with the website comes up with. They're looking for donations and people to sort books they're not giving books away. At least that's what I was told."

Perhaps Book Think (understandably) doesn't have the messaging sorted out between various staff/volunteers. I just reposted what Book Think had posted on their own FaceBook page. That post is still up on FB and I just commented to ask them to sort out their divergent info between FB and phone.

Here's Book Thing's reply on FaceBook to my inquiry about the disconnect between their post and the info on the phone:

"We asked people to contact us through the website because we have limited control over incoming calls while we are rebuilding. We are sorry about your friend's experience, and will be happy to provide books if she contacts us through bookthing.org or provides her contact information in some way. Thank you."
