I'm almost at the end of rereading Lord of the Rings again. I've been reading it interspersed with some of the A Game of Thrones series as a comparison which has been an interesting experience. But I've realised that I've come to a point where the current date is almost exactly the same as the date of various events in the books. I've had a quick google and can't find anything but I wondered if anyone had seen anything about reading it on the date that events happen in the book. Obviously some daily reads would be longer than others and often there would be nothing to read for some weeks at a time, for instance at the start of the book. I guess what I need to start with would be a calendar of what happens when through the book. Apologies if this has been raised before or is easily searchable but I really couldn't decide what to search for.

I'd be surprised if someone hadn't compiled an exquisitely detailed timeline and posted it. In fact, I'd be very surprised if Tolkien himself didn't create one that's out there somewhere. Let us know if you find it.

Thanks anyway guys, back to Google. Here's hoping I don't have to do it all myself. Group project anyone?

Isn't there a detailed list of what happens on each day in one of the appendices at the back of The Return of the King? As I recall, we're at the point right now where the ring has been destroyed but everyone is still there in Ithilien. I think Gondor was starting a new calendar (for the Fourth Age? my memory is fuzzy), but it would still be late March or early April in the Shire.
