WashDC's used and indie bookstores

That's a nice post. I've been book shopping in DC twice, but didn't recognize some of those places, so now I feel like I've missed out and must go back, haha.

There are also some good places in the nearby MD and VA suburbs.

Only because the friend I was staying with lived in Rockville needed to go to a Goodwill, I ended up one day at a bookstore there (I assume in Rockville, or nearby ... it was right next to the Goodwill), that I recall having some books I'd never seen, and at some crazy low prices.

I grew up in Rockville.
I think that was the Friends of the Library bookstore off of Boiling Brook Parkway. The bookstore is still there but the Good Will store is gone now.

I moved away from the DC area eight years ago so I don't know if this is still true. But when I lived in the area, there was a locally published booklet titled something like "Antiquarian Bookshops of the Metropolitian Washington Area", updated every year or two and available for free at most of the shops listed in it. It was a wonderful resource, even if it missed a few shops that didn't belong to the local antiquarian bookshop organization.

Interestingly, most of the shops listed in the link in the original post are new since I moved away. There may be a lot of churn in the DC bookshop area, but it seems to remain much healthier than most of the rest of the country. I miss that a lot, especially since there are so few good used-book shops in Kentucky, where I now live between Louisville and Lexington, the two largest cities in the state.
