Well, I have read a whopping two of these! #46 and #63. I have to say that I liked The Alienist more than the Tana French book - but the 3rd Dublin Murder Squad book, (Faithful Place), was a bit of a highlight for me. That's as far as I have read in that series, to date.

>2 ScoLgo: They were two books I very much wanted to get too, but was disappointed in both - although admittedly In the Woods more so. So much so that I haven't returned to the series but you have now got me interested with your comment about Faithful Place.

Definitely a lot of excellent books in this list.

Well... book #2 The Likeness was a real disappointment to me and I almost gave up on Tana French at that point. The writing was good enough but the entire premise was just too far-fetched and my suspension of disbelief really suffered as a result, (this from a guy that reads a lot of science-fiction! ;). Thankfully, Faithful Place more than made up for it with a more believable premise, more interesting characters, and a better mystery.

Well I read 5 of those books:

#3, #13, and #27 by Lee Child....I did like the Reacher novels at first and read about 8 of them... but then I gave up on them. There is no growth in his characters especially Jack Reacher. I read one book (forget which one) where there was a short story about Jack Reacher at about 16 years old. He was in New York and he takes on the Mafia and kicks their butt and gets the girl in the process... same as he would if he was in his 30's. If you did not know his age in the story you would have assumed him to be in his 30's... ticked me off... the novels get to be the same just different names, places but the stories are similar... I did like how he got money when he needed it though. I stopped reading the series when I ran into a book, "Persuader" that had a ridiculous amount of gratuitous violence... right from page one.

The other one is #15 , The Camel Club by David Baldacci I did like the Camel Club series and read it to the end. I do not like all Baldacci series though. #79 Split Second ...The King/Maxwell series is one that I gave up on. Don't like characters that say they think that they are onto something but don't reveal them until the big reveal at the end.

I'm not sure how to combine these two book discussion lists since our discussions here are all going to take place on the M&S Extra group, or even if we want to. Is that right, Andrew or do I have it backwards. We are going to kill Library Thing!!!!

8Andrew-theQM
Edited: Jun 18, 2016, 4:07 pm

>7 Carol420: They are all going to be linked to from the one group, but it will be the Mystery and Suspense Group, not the Extra Group. You can keep them separate as one will be the books nominated and voted on by the group, the other 2 each month will be more informal agreement following suggestions from members.
Hopefully we won't kill it, but we have already killed Book Army, Shelfari and Leafmarks 😒

>11 Lynxear: The books on this list have been read one a month over the last 7 years and have been nominated and voted for by the group members at the time. I know you are interested in historical mysteries and I am looking to suggest a few historical mysteries to read which you might be interested in. We are very happy to have you here. 😊

yes I see the grocery list of novels but what I don't see is a ranking of the good/bad/ugly of them. I suppose I could look at the LT rankings but I could just do a mash tag with Thriller and Mystery and I could get a list to wade through... you don't make it easy to find them by adding touchstone links either.

When I've got some time later on I will suggest the ones I enjoyed the most with touchstones.

>15 Lynxear: Thank you Lynxear for your feedback. Because I realized that you were absolutely correct in what you said...there is a tremendous list of books and since some of them were done on Shelfari and some on Leafmarks, the stats didn't get carried over except for the fact that we had read them. I wanted anyone that ran across the discussion thread to be able to see what the participants thought about the book...so I started a book discussion stats thread that lists the books that we have information for along with some remarks and ratings by the people participating. I only wish that I had had sense enough to have done this from the start but many of the early ones were run by an entirely different admin and most of us weren't even participating. Here is the link if you are still interested in checking it out and we would like to invite you to join us in our future discussions.

I've read 17 of these titles. I'm trying to finish Alexandria Link by Steve Berry. Started it last January. I keep getting side tracked by my 2 year unintended reading hiatus. Maybe I can get it done for October. I am getting back on track.
