Well that didn't take long. I just joined the Folio Society at the beginning of June and I'm already hopelessly addicted.
A full on folio book junkie.
It started innocently enough. I thought "these are nice books, I wonder where I can get more?"
Found the Folio sight, and took what I thought at the time, was a pretty deep plunge. I wanted to start the collection out right.
On June 2 I ordered:
The Shining ( I'm American, we read this type of "literature")
The Sound and the Fury ( I had to, it has multi colored type)
Catch 22
1984
The Great Gatsby
Lord of the Flies
Heart of Darkness
The Comedians ( This Graham Greene guy is pretty good!)
Then I discovered this site and really got pulled in. The posters here make the addiction seem unavoidable, might as well just give in. So I did.
I next ordered on June 13:
The Man in the High Tower (Nazis are the best villians)
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Casino Royale ( Russians are the best villians)
A Clockwork Orange
Then my first shipment arrived. It's all over now.
I went on ebay and purchased:
Dracula
The Human Factor (this Graham Greene guy is pretty good)
Short Stories / Hemingway
The New York Trilogy
To Kill A Mockingbird
Then Folio had a summer sale. I didn't know there was going to be a summer sale!
As I lay Dying
Eugene Onegin
Midnight's Children
The Tiger in the Smoke
and because I saved so much money on those ,,,,
Dune
22 books in 24 days.
I guess my only question now is,,,,when does some more new stuff come out?

Welcome to FSD and FAD. Before you know it you will have ten years worth of unread books, and you will still keep on buying more. Unlike most addictions the only health effects are increased knowledge and poverty.

Oh boy I know that feeling. I have ordered 42 with 2 more on way from the summer sale since mid of last year. It felt like I had to play catch up since I hadn't been into Folio books since I was much younger. I've gotten through 16 of them so far so I'm making progress..I think.

27? I can only imagine how much that cost at once wow. Did they all arrive at once? That must have been a very fun unboxing day if they did!

That's one of the fun things about ordering from ebay, they just show up every few days unexpectedly. It's like opening up Christmas presents.
Except I've ordered so many it's more like Hanukkah.

>4 Mister_Fox: They all arrived at once and it was an amazing unboxing day! And very surprisingly only one of the books had any shipping damage!
I had picked out all the books I really wanted from Folio and thought I would qualify for the corporate discount by buying in bulk. But was informed that's not within the terms of that offer. Although I did manage to find one of those 20% vouchers and the 10 month installment plan was still offered so it worked out in the end.

You are not buying books to fill empty void? I mean, if it`s not this, then it`s cigarettes, shoes, or whattever. I do so, but i grew to like those books i bought, thanks almighty Odin. One time in the future, you will stop, and reflect your past purchases, and you will love them, or you will scratch your head looking at them and think why? WHY? .. then it goes back to normal, you either continue to live your life, or you continue with your addiction, be it good for you, or bad. I`m glad i found FS ..

First you buy must-haves, then like-to haves, then should-haves, then if-not-now-they-might-sell-out haves, then but-they're-in-the-sale haves, then I-haven't-bought-any-for-a-couple-of-weeks haves, then just-for-the-hell-of-it haves, then you're out of shelf space and it begins to get serious...

.. very true. When the time comes - it will come. If you feel like your losing it, then take a break from librarything. I mean its hard to sober up in a liquershop, that takes discipline from another world
11DoItCarl
>8 scratchpad: and that's only the "haves" from looking at the Folio site. Amazon and Ebay are a beast of their own. . .
12devilsisland
ebay haves are things you had no intention of buying but it's such a great deal,,,,
That's how I ended up with 4 "like new mint" Joseph Conrad folios
And none of them are Nostromo or Heart of Darkness
