I knew that when it opened right away with Vera that there would probably soon be a body. Thought maybe it would be bobbing around in the pool.

I thought it was a great introduction. We get a bit of Vera's take on things and then right into the discovery of a dead body.

Yes, I was hooked and waiting for the body to show up. Thought the steam room was a great place for the body as the steam made the discovery seem kind of foggy.

I loved the opening to this book, the best by far. It was good to see it opening up with Vera (the very first word was Vera). I also was waiting for a body to turn up and thought it would be in the water. Totally hooked me!
6Sergeirocks
No messing about, wondering where Vera was this time - as you say, Andrew, first word was 'Vera'.
Have to say, I'm always pre-hooked with one of Ann's books: not disappointed with the start of this one...

>6 Sergeirocks: Couldn't agree more Sergei. Not so taken with Vera in the first couple of books but now they are right up there!
8Olivermagnus
I agree about Vera. I didn't understand her appeal in the first book but she grew on me in books 2 and 3. Now I quite like her.

As usual, a very good start that gripped me right from the beginning. I too thought the steam room an interesting location. I love steam rooms so i'm not sure i'll be able to sit in one so comfortably again. :) Eucalyptus steam rooms are how I survive winter in MN.

Welcome to the discussion Lynsey. What is a Eucalyptus steam room?

>9 Lynsey2: Hi Lyndsey...Glad you could make it but we've eaten all the cheesecake...or rather Andrew did... and the boat in in dry-dock. Lynda had them add a pool but there is a spare life preserver if you get stuck:)

>10 Andrew-theQM: I'm not sure how they do it but i'm assuming they infuse some Eucalyptus oil into the water and in the steam format the scent opens nasal pathways and aids in deeper breathing. Eucalyptus oil is known for it's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties or so they say. I just know that when it's 15 below 0 outside it just feels really good!
>11 Carol420: Thanks for eating all the cheesecake! I'm on a diet. :)
